I highly recommend spending a week with this crew. We started with a log and spent seven days making split and shaved Windsor and ladder back chairs.

Whisk Brooms (3 hours) | February 15
Broom tying is a practical skill requiring a minimal amount of time and space, and can be practiced with many different types of fiber. This class will introduce a simple tying set-up and cover a few whisk broom patterns. Students should expect to make 2 to 3 brooms, and have all the information they need to continue tying brooms at home. No previous experience required.
Find more information at the @vermonthandworks website.

This aerial photograph from the 1970s shows the MacDonough–Poole farm, now home to Vermont Handworks. The shop, pole barn, and hen house pictured here are among the buildings that still stand today.
The shop was once packed floor to ceiling with tools collected over time. As we cleaned the space, we discovered blacksmithing and cobbler tools, a pottery wheel, and other objects from the past.
For the past several years, we’ve been repairing and restoring the building, creating a space to work and teach.
We are excited to share the next chapter of our collaborative endeavor. After several years developing a shared teaching space and building community around the shop in Charlotte, VT, we’ve decided to combine our teaching practices and launch Vermont Handworks.
Now all shop happenings and offerings can be found on the @vermonthandworks website. It’s where you can sign up for classes, see upcoming craft nights, and learn about the history and vision of the teaching space.

My 2026 chair making workshops through August are now up on my website. I will also be regularly offering one day classes this year, like spoon carving, broom making, fan birds, and some willow projects. New one day classes will be posted every couple months.
Thanks so much to everyone who made it to the shop this year to teach or take a workshop!
