In solidarity with Palestine, Hip Hop legends refused to perform at a venue until zionist owner was no longer in any form owner or involved with the venue. Boycotts work when the people stand in solidarity βπΏβπΎβπ½

Finished this incredible book by Jonathon Grasse on my favorite musician, Eric Dolphy. West coast multi-instrumentalist & one of the trailblazing pioneers of the avante-garde / free jazz movement. With only 4 years as a solo recording artist, dropping his debut as leader in 1960 (Outward Bound) til his death in 1964 in Berlin. The barriers he broke with his solos & minds he blew with his compositions, truly timeless. Itβs important to know, Dolphy was not accepted by alot of critics in the main stream jazz world at that time. They didnβt understand or care for his sound, style, delivery. They thought he was doing too much. Even Miles was hating on Dolphy during a few interviews. π
We have to consider the racism jazz musicians faced in the music industry in the 60βs as well. The obstacles they faced & shady/unfair deals they dealt with.
I really like this book because it gave me an in depth look into Dolphys albums, his catalog, collaboration albums & his days of playing with Trane & Mingus & what he was going through during that time. The book breaks down the timeline of his short career & basically gives an analytical album review, song by song, to each album. Incredible.
I listen to Dolphys solos & laugh, cry, smile or just shake my head at how beautiful they sound. Maybe only Tupac, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye & Gil-Scott give me that similar feeling. But these emotions come through an instrument with no words spoken. A transitional sonic understanding. That can be interpreted in so many ways. All I know, in my humble opinion, jazz music is the ultimate display of arts & craft. So many motions moving in different directions yet on the same journey. Musicians carrying each other through deep meditations, with the intentions of discovering something new. Connecting with whatβs within this world yet always pushing outward. On their destination towards freedom. Finding that freedom & sonically creating masterpieces. Eric Dolphy forever.
Dear 510-Day community, protect that, cherish it. Share & educate eachother. Donβt let nonbelievers talk you out of organizing. Donβt let them have you think itβs useless & corny to stand for the less fortunate. Dont let nonprofits hijack & co-opt the messaging. Donβt let the local celebrities with no political analysis make deals with politicians & take control of the original narrative. Obstacles will occur when some show their true colors. Stand strong. The thirst for money, power & positioning will never outlast the peopleβs love & dedication for true liberation. Love yall.
Sincerely in solidarity, your Frisco comrade βπ½#Happy510Day @510day
Happy Mommas Day.. How do I begin, where do I begin. My protector, educator, provider, my comrade, my backbone. The supporter of my dreams. Your love & patience have taught me so much. Ups & downs like any mother & son relationship, but our connection, our bond, is far beyond what any of us could truly understand. Your strength, conviction & dedication have showed me the true definition of, profound love. Watching you play & interact with my Frida, helps me find the peace/piece that was missing in this journey. I can never thank you enough, momma..
