OOPS WE ALMOST FORGOT… Today was our three year anniversary of opening up inside the @1078gallery . We don’t say this enough, but we are SO incredibly grateful to be a part of this community on the corner of 17th and Park with 1078 and @harvests_and_habitats . It’s hard to believe that we were so nervous to ask the board if we could move in, and now we’re all still here, constantly improving things and enjoying the space. And THANK YOU to all of you for keeping us going. We love being a part of the Barber neighborhood and Chico. We love being a part of your routine and your community. We love watching your babies and kids grow, cheering you on as you go through big life changes, serving you coffee on your hard days (even if we wish you didn’t have them!), being visited by those of you who move away and remember to say hi when you’re back in town, and learning how to be better people through all of you. The moment you didn’t know you were waiting for! Canned lattes are officially available at Equilateral and coming soon to a couple of other special spots. Incredibly cool and cute can label designed by the lovely @ashley.penning who knocked out multiple different designs for us at the same time! For now we are just canning oat milk lattes (options are: unsweetened, lavender, cinnamon swirl, and vanilla!) to get a feel for things, but will take preorders in the future. Stay tuned for announcements on the spots that will be carrying our cans 👻 Edit: cans are being made in house, not outsourced!

Friendly reminder to update your baristas at Equilateral Coffee on your name and/or pronoun changes! “Trans people belong here!” graphic in the bottom left corner is one of our faves from @ashandchess 💜 It’s as simple as: - saying: “You can start writing [insert name here] on my cup from now on!” - having your partner or friend use your pronouns/name subtly or not subtly to or in front of us (we catch on quickly!) - passing us a note - telling us directly - sending us a DM We understand it can be nerve wracking, but we promise it will go smoothly with us. Added something new to the fridge! Come give a @dramplantmagic sparkling water a try. No sugar and no fake “natural” flavours. They are all really delicious! We tried one for the first time last weekend when we went to Sac and stopped into the very cute @superette_market . Loved it so much we had to stock it. See you soon!

Have you seen our fun new snacks yet?? We have a pretty small space, but we made room to bring in a few different brands that we really love! All are plant based and gluten free! First is @everybody_eating . They make crackers and cookies with minimal, clean ingredients that are vegan and top 9 allergen free! We’ve been buying this brand at home for six years now! All of the flavors are so good, it’s hard to pick a favorite! Our top three are the pretzels, fiery chile lime, and cookies! Next is @elementalsuperfood . They make organic seed + nut bars that come in a variety of flavors. They’re nutrient dense, packed with protein and fiber, and have the perfect taste and texture! They’re all delicious, but Rylan’s favorite is the almond butter and mine is mulberry cacao spirulina! Last but not least is @livefloura ! They make vegan fruit/almond bars. They’re made with upcycled fruit scraps like rinds and cores!! They’re packed with diverse fiber, which is super important for overall health! We really like all of the flavors, but our favorites are the mango cardamom and brambleberry lavender! Fun fact, all of these brands were founded by women! 👸🏻They’re all a perfect snack option to grab and take with you to work, school, a bike ride, the gym, etc!! Or keep some in your bag for when you’re feeling peckish 😋

Happy Friday, everyone! Just making a little time for a post since the sun is shining and I finally remembered to put a little effort into promoting equilateral. Most of you do the heavy lifting for us by telling your friends and family that we exist, and we really appreciate you for it. So much so that we started a loyalty program. You can sign up next time you come in, and start accruing points which will eventually turn into a reward. We really appreciate all of you that actively choose to support this teeny tiny coffee shop inside of an art gallery. Every time you choose to spend your money locally instead of with corporations, we are grateful. Which brings us to…we have a new candle from our faves over at @ghost_poppy_ ! Of course we will always have our OG cinnamon swirl latte candle, but we wanted a brighter scent for the warm weather. Some of our regulars (aka the mom group) helped us sniff and pick this absolute winner of a candle, and it’s delightful! Come smell for yourself and then after you grab a coffee from us, head over to Ghost Poppy’s retail spot on Mangrove (across the street from S&S) and show some love there, too. Anyway, we hope to see some of you this weekend!

Alright, so we said we would announce by the end of the month because we wanted to give ourselves time to generate a social media post (which we both dread), but it turns out this was kind of fun, and with life being what it is right now (dark and terrible), it was helpful to zone out for a minute. So, here are some results from Equilateral’s first and only syrup guessing contest! We hope you had fun guessing, we enjoyed watching you all do the mental math, using kind of wild variables, and all kinds of different methods. My fave method was a customer telling us she woke up from a slumber with a number in mind, and went with that. So tell us, how did you arrive at your guess? And congrats to our winner! You have earned eternal bragging rights, a free drink, and a 16oz jar of our housemade syrup. We will give you a list to choose from, and you can let us know what you dream of 🥰

Two lil shop updates: After weeks without a fridge, our new one is finally here! Find your fave equilateral cans stocked up, and those delicious elemental bars (more coming soon). It’s also larger than the last fridge, so we’re planning to source a couple more grab and go refrigerated goodies over time. Second, we switched our payment processor over to Toast! Why? Because square was a headache, and we decided to stop complaining and finally do something (leave!). I’ve spent hours and hours trying to get the back end of this system up and running, and have been at the cafe over the last three days getting everything set up so there wouldn’t be a holdup for business tomorrow. What does this mean for you? Our mobile ordering hub has been relocated and it may take a little getting used to on both ends. I am still fine tuning the mobile ordering menu, but should have everything squared away in the next few hours. Link to order is in our bio, and on our website. I still have to add in the options to alter a drink (half sweet, add whip, add shot, that kind of thing), but after I get that going, I welcome feedback on any issues you’re running into! Have no fear! All existing gift cards are still valid and fully functional. I have entered in all of the data needed to use existing gift cards with toast, and your funds are all still there, e-gift cards included! If there are any hiccups with them, I have the ability to fix it. Please be patient with us while our muscle memory develops with this new system. We were using square for over seven years, but this refresh was much needed and we are excited to leave them behind. Hope to see you all this week! We are open normal hours. CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT! We decided to do something fun because why not? A while back, I started keeping track of how many ounces of syrup Eileen makes, and I randomly decided to tally up what it amounted to in 2025. It felt like a wild amount, and when I told her the number, she thought it would be fun to let you all guess for a chance to win something special. So…come in to the shop and make a guess! We will have a jar where you can put your guesses, with your name and number. Closest person to the number will get a 16oz jar of our housemade syrup (you’ll get to choose from an extensive list of offerings including SOME of the staples and SOME of the seasonals) plus a free drink! There will be no hints given, you just have to make a totally uneducated guess based on what you *think* we go through in a year. I think the fun of it is that it’s really anyone’s game! You must come in during our hours to participate. Only one guess allowed per person! Guess the amount in ounces! Starting January 15th, and ending on January 28th. Winner will be announced by the end of the month.

Wow, January already! You know what that means…it’s grey skies and spice girl month. We have added some descriptions to the image to give the newbies an idea of what these are. All I know is that they’re delicious and you need to have them in your life. Don’t let the spice girl scare you off, some of you have been nervous about it, but it really is just a nice, fresh, warm housemade syrup that we are really proud of. Be adventurous, try something new! January is usually a slow month for most small businesses, so we are super grateful to all of you who make sure to pop in when you can. Hope to see you soon! Grey skies: earl grey syrup topped with cocoa powder. Best in a latte or matcha. Spice girl: fresh ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, orange peel. Topped with a bit of cayenne.

Guess what’s coming back tomorrow for another limited run?! Our housemade black sesame syrup! It’s nutty, sweet, and ever so slightly bitter (a bit like hazelnut or peanut butter!) and pairs really nicely in a latte. Just like last year, it will ONLY be available as a latte special. This means no adding it to americanos, mochas, matchas, etc., sorry! We want it to be enjoyed as intended- with a double shot of @wreckingballcoffee espresso and milk of your choice. It’s delicious both hot and iced! Open 7-2 tomorrow through Friday, then 8-2 Saturday (witch’s market happening!) and Sunday!
