This year’s Vines of Truth anthology brings together the voices, stories, and experiences shared through our Visiting Writers series and student writing community. Throughout the year, visiting writers worked with Literacy KC students to inspire creativity, reflection, and storytelling through writing. Their contributions, alongside student work, are featured in Vines of Truth Volume Eight. Join us on May 16th as we celebrate this year’s anthology with readings from Visiting Writers and Literacy KC students, followed by an open mic. The event is free and open to the public. Fam… the roaster is finally here and we’ve already been putting it to work ☕🔥 This whole process has been a long time coming, but we’re officially roasting coffee in-house at Equal Minded Café. I sent a few of our veteran baristas to St. Louis to train with First Crack so I wouldn’t be the only one who knew how to run this thing. They learned about roasting, coffee origins, flavor profiles, cupping, and how to help teach future coffee education classes through our nonprofit work. They came back excited, motivated, and honestly it was one of those moments that reminded me why I keep pushing so hard with all of this. Since then, we’ve roasted our first batches, did our first cupping with my boy Clarence as the test dummy, and dropped off 40 lbs of coffee to Operation Breakthrough’s culinary program. I’m terrible at this content thing, but I’m trying to keep y’all updated more because we really are building something special over here. #proaster #KansasCityCoffee #coffeetasting #freshroasted #wholesalecoffee
