Climate change isn’t equal, and neither are its impacts. In our April Newsletter, we explore how environmental crises deepen existing inequalities for LGBTQ+ Jamaicans, especially during disasters like Hurricane Melissa, where access to shelter, relief, and recovery isn’t always safe or equal. We also share insights from our Earth Day community poll, reflections from our Executive Director, and a conversation with our 2026 Ambassador Martell on climate justice, belonging, and resilience. Read the full issue via the link our bio to see why climate justice must be inclusive. #EFAFNewsletter #ClimateChange #EvironmentalJustice

“When the funding stops, the work does not. It just becomes far more dangerous.” 💔 In Jamaica, 1 in 3 LGBTIQ people have experienced homelessness. Then the hurricanes came. Glenroy Murray of Equality for All Foundation (@equalityja ) shares why the funding crisis becomes a matter of life and death during climate disasters like Hurricane Melissa. When mainstream relief turns people away, Outright’s partners are often the only safety net left. Global funding for LGBTIQ human rights is collapsing at the exact moment our partners need support the most. Through our Funding Our Freedom initiative, we are asking you to help close the gap. Your support keeps the lights on for activists like Glenroy. Link in bio to donate. #HumanRights #FundingOurFreedom #OutrightInternational

We all saw the video. But this is bigger than one moment, it’s about a growing culture where bullying is being recorded, shared, and normalized. As of March 2026, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency reported 49 bullying incidents, and counting. The recent assault involving a student at Jamaica College is a stark reminder that too many of our young people are navigating unsafe environments, often without the support they need. We also know this reality is even harsher for LGBTQ+ youth. Our 2024 Needs Assessment found that 47.2% of respondents experienced bullying, with 83.7% of those incidents happening during high school - a critical stage for development, identity, and self-worth. So we have to ask: what are we doing to change this? At Equality For All Foundation, we’re calling for a shift; from reactive punishment to proactive, holistic solutions that address school culture, emotional support, and accountability. Because safety, dignity, and respect should not be optional for any child. We’ve shared more in our Letter to the Editor in the Jamaica Observer. 🔗 Read the full piece at the link in our bio and join the conversation. #EndBullying #SafeSchoolsJA #IDAHOT2026 #EqualityForAll #protectouryouth

In 2018, Rafiki made history, not just as a vibrant Kenyan love story, but as a film bold enough to challenge silence around queer lives. Its ban by the Kenya Film Classification Board sparked global outrage, igniting conversations about censorship, culture, and the right to tell our own stories. After an eight-year legal battle, the ban was ultimately ruled unconstitutional, marking a powerful win for creative freedom and LGBTQ+ rights across the world. This is why Rafiki is more than a movie - it’s a movement. As we observe IDAHOT (May 17) under the theme “At The Heart of Democracy,” we’re reminded that democracy must include all of us: our voices, our stories, our love. Visibility is not a privilege; it is a right. Join us for our IDAHOT Movie Night as we screen Rafiki - a celebration of resistance, joy, and the ongoing fight against homophobia and transphobia. 🌈 Come be part of the conversation. Come be part of the movement. 📅 Sunday, May 17, 2026 🕕 6PM 📍 Rainbow House 🔗 RSVP at the link in bio #IDAHOT2026 #AtTheHeartOfDemocracy #QueerStoriesMatter #Rafiki EqualityForAll

From the Director’s Desk, Shadeana Mascull, Director of Programmes & Partnerships, reminds us that the Jamaican LGBTQ+ movement is built on the courage and commitment of those who came before us. Honouring voices of queer women like Angeliqué Jackson means recognizing the relentless advocacy that has shaped safer, more inclusive spaces - especially for queer women facing violence and discrimination. This is a legacy we must continue to carry forward, with intention, care, and action.
