Displaced Student Opportunities UK, a new online portal advertising opportunities that support refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK to access university.
At @refugeeeduk , @student_action_for_refugees and @cityofsanctuaryuk we know that access to university can be life-changing for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
We've worked together to create a new way of sharing accessible, accurate information to support applicants on their journey to higher education.
We use the term ‘displaced’ to refer to anyone who has sought sanctuary in the UK. You might identify as a refugee, be seeking asylum, or have come to the UK through a resettlement scheme. #DisplacedStudentUK features opportunities to support people from a range of backgrounds.
How does it work?
1️⃣ Universities, charities, and other organisations can add information about opportunities that they offer to support access to HE.
2️⃣ Opportunities are checked by a moderator to ensure quality.
3️⃣ Applicants use the portal to find an opportunity that suits them.
We need your help!
📍 Share this news with anyone you think could benefit.
📍 If you’re at uni, ask your university to add their scholarships and other support for displaced students to the site.
📍 If you volunteer or work for an organisation that supports people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, share the website with them.

Equal Access is STAR’s national campaign to ensure that people seeking refugee protection in the UK can access higher education.

In the UK, people seeking asylum are locked out of higher education. They are treated as international students and asked to pay international fees, but do not have access to student finance and are not allowed to work.
Even when granted refugee status or leave to remain, applicants often face challenges while applying to university or accessing funding.
STAR is changing this.
The Equal Access campaign breaks down barriers to higher education by:
📌 Campaigning for scholarships and access opportunities at universities across the UK
📌 Organising workshops, mentoring and open days to support applicants
📌 Raising awareness of the issue and advocating for solutions
The campaign is guided by the expertise of STAR’s Equal Access Activists, campaigners with lived experience of accessing higher education while seeking asylum or with an insecure immigration status.
Our national team coordinates action across the charity sector, advocates for policy change, and provides expert support to universities and students.
