I am Queen 2025
Choreographic debut at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center
A year ago, I had the privilege of choreographing a dedication piece for former ballerina Ms. Ayisha McMillan Cravotta. Ms. Cravotta, thank you for your expression and for your career, which inspires my expression and my career daily. It was my choreographic debut for a main stage performing arts center, and it was an honor to honor her. Today, I woke up with an immense sense of gratitude for all of the opportunities I receive to create and express alongside my friends and family. This experience most definitely highlights just that. Thank you to @nashvilleballet for supporting me in this adventure and a special thanks to the @epochtribe for including us in your celebration of black excellence. There was no better inspiration for my creation.
I have so much love for these beautiful women and am so grateful to have been able to create on them and to dance with them. Thank you @wheelsarejazzy and @claudiamon24 for having such open hearts and minds. You are absolutely incredible and inspire me every day. I love you.
Rest in perfect peace, Queen Mother Ruth Sloane.
Today, our city, our creative community, our world, collectively mourns the loss of a giant. Here at Epoch Tribe, we mourn the loss of a pioneer, a visionary, a guide who was so giving with her wisdom, her love, and her experience. She was also LOUD with her support. She showed up to our shows. She sat in the front. She clapped LOUDLY. And she followed up with feedback and support and nudges to remind us to keep going.
She understood that we could not exist without the visions and sacrifices of powerful Black women like her. We sit humbly at her feet. We create because she did. Ruth Sloane warmed the path. She opened the doors. She stood guard.
May your beautiful work bear witness for you. May your legacy be a comfort for Aisha and the rest of your family and community. Until we meet again. Rest, dear Queen. You have earned it. ๐
