Today my son gave me a piece of his artwork as an early Mother’s Day gift. He’s not artsy at all, but he worked really hard on it and I love it so much. It’s a sketch of a scene from one of his favorite video games-Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m not a fan of gaming but this game is based on American history and has an absolute killer soundtrack so it appeals to me in a way most games don’t. Sadly I didnt get a picture of it before I left home because i burst into tears when he showed it to me and was a blubbering mess for the next 20 minutes. The boy gave me the gift of motherhood 15 years ago and I treasure time with him and his sister now more than ever. Life moves too fast sometimes…

Last week, the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Center for Communication held a screening of Free Beer Tomorrow and a Q&A with director/producer team Julie and LuSter as part of Philadelphia Cinematheque. Thanks to Andy Tan, Gabrielle Bellot, Anna Murphy, TJ Ghose and Gavin Danger for helping to make this happen, and thanks to all who watched the film and stuck around to ask your thoughtful questions. 💚🍻 #documentary #lesbian #queerfilm #lgbtq #lgbthistory

A fresh coat of paint won’t fix everything, but it sure does feel good when it’s done!

Today is graduation day for Free Beer Tomorrow. It’s been almost four years to the day that the seeds were planted for this moment. Tonight the film makes its world premiere at the renowned Wexner Center for the Arts (do not permit the center’s namesake to tarnish their decades long unwavering commitment to nurturing the works of countless queer artists). This fact alone is enough to make me catch my breath. I can’t even share the link to the event because both nights are sold out. For the slow pokes who didn’t get their tickets, you can join us at our festival debut at the Cleveland International Film Festival next month. There is much to say about this journey. Like so much of life it has been a story of profound loss tied up with profound joy. Our hearts have swelled and then caved, sometimes within hours of each other. And that is the ride of life, right?! Ups and downs and all things in between, but if you are fortunate, as the grand “we” have been, you surround yourself with friends, family, community and advocates who believe in you and lift you up so you can reach your highest heights. Immeasurable gratitude to all in my circle who have been there along the way. Today is your day too…
