Not all seizures look the same.
And most don’t look like what you expect.
For many people, a seizure can mean confusion, exhaustion, memory loss, or fear that lingers long after it ends.
And just like running a marathon, recovery isn’t instant.
But unlike a marathon, there’s no finish line. No medal. No warning.
Understanding epilepsy starts with listening, learning, and challenging assumptions.

Today we celebrate International Nurses' Day, this year focusing on the importance of empowering nurses to save lives.
We know the incredible and crucial role epilepsy specialist nurses (ESNs) play in supporting people with epilepsy and their loved ones. ESN Jenny, from Swansea, is one of them. Last year she won an Epilepsy Action Star award for being a fantastic role model demonstrating what real, compassionate and extraordinary care looks like.
Wales Manager Jan Paterson said: "Jenny goes above and beyond every single day. She advocates fiercely for patients, gently challenging stigma. Families trust her. Colleagues admire her. And countless people are living braver, better lives because of her."
But we need more ESNs like Jenny to be there to empower and give people the lifeline they need.
We know there is a neurology workforce crisis in the UK, with only 448 ESNs for the 630,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK. That's just one ESN to every 1,397 people. This urgently needs to change.
Do you have an ESN? Tell us the difference they make for you and why they need to be celebrated.
Spend the day with us at #LeedsMarathon 💜
A huge well done to all of our runners!
