A day at @kendjamlodge is kind of like a jungle species buffet. Thereâs no shortage of targets, and itâs a place to check off some fish off the bucket list. Landing a New Zealand trout is one of the most satisfying experiences. Not just because of their size, but the entire experience leading up to it.
Days deep in the bush with a loaded pack. Sandflies swarming. Eyes locked on the water. One wrong move and theyâre gone. Staying low, moving slow. Long leaders, delicate casts.
Youâre sure itâs the right fly. He looks. Refuses. Change it. Another look. Refusal again. Try a nymph. He drifts over, inspects, doesnât commit. More changes.
Then finally, a flash of white as his mouth opens.
