Huntingdonshire District Council has embarked on an exciting initiative in partnership with epd to enhance the ecology of three parks in the area. This collaborative effort aims to implement a phased programme of biodiversity improvements that not only enriches the natural environment but also involves and reflects the desires of the local community.

Lincolnshire Police held a national competition in 2016 to design and implement a Memorial Garden to remember and celebrate those officers who lost their lives during service. We not only won the competition and carried out detailed design for the garden, but also acted as Contract Administrators for the project.
Lincolnshire Police had decided to build a new bespoke memorial garden with the generous donation they had received as a bequest in the will of a local resident, Val Hills.
The garden was officially opened in January 2017 by the Bishop of Lincoln the Rt Revd Christopher Lowson, and the ribbon cut by Lord Lieutenant for Lincolnshire, Tony Dennis.
The garden features nine pillars, representing each one of Sir Robert Peel’s Principles of Policing, which are a fitting reminder of the standards that Lincolnshire Police hold themselves to every day. From each of those principles a single word was chosen for each pillar: Prevention, Approval, Cooperation, Proportionate, Impartiality, Restorative, Relationships, Humility and Integrity.

Our sensitive design approach maximised the site’s existing natural assets, integrating all within a new permeable movement framework. Key views towards landmark features such as the church are secured within the new layout, reinforcing legibility and strengthening a sense of place. A crucial part of the design process involved public and local community engagement events to ensure local people were able to help shape the masterplan for the square.

In 2009 we win the national competition to design and implement King’s Heath’s new public quare near Birmingham city centre. We were appointed as master planners and landscape architects to lead a multi-disciplinary team of specialist consultants. The design had to be flexible to accommodate public events, whilst sensitively integrating the existing heritage, which includes the Grade 2 listed church, war memorials and gravestones.

Together Tompion and Newsam form a key public open space within the Brooklands development. Tompion at the centre of the design creates an attractive square with three separate circular seating areas surrounded by planting including and editable garden and an iris garden.
Newsam North creates attractive green walkways through wildflower meadows and small leafed lime trees. Newsam South continues the limes along an amenity grassland area.
Together the spaces create attractive, imaginative green open spaces which break up the built form and create a place for residents to look onto, walk and relax.

Brooklands is a major new urban extension on the eastern edge of Milton Keynes which comprises over 2,000 new homes with associated local facilities and schools. We were commissioned to design the areas of public open space and came up with the concept of a structural landscape forming the backbone of the development in the form of a 3km long forested ridge. The practical function of this ridge is to shield the new housing area from the noise and visual intrusion of the adjacent M1 motorway.

epd were tasked with designing a private garden space, but with provision for a communal area for residents within the flats too. It had to be low maintenance with native planting in the shady area, but also providing biodiversity gain.
The garden was located within the conservation area so this informed the concept for the landscape design.
The planting was specified to maximise biodiversity gain and insect pollinators. Visualisations were produced to help bring the design to life for the client, a model and video were also created so the residents could experience a walk through of the design.

Rufford Abbey Country Park, a Grade II Registered Park and Garden, is managed by Parkwood Leisure. It comprises 16 Listed Buildings either within or adjacent to the Country Park. The remains of the Medieval Abbey and the immediate surroundings are designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM).
Throughout the design and construction phases, meticulous attention was paid to safeguarding the nationally important heritage features and local biodiversity, while also creating valuable educational opportunities.

At epd, we understand the importance of creating spaces that foster connection and promote well-being. When tasked with the redesign of this assisted living development, we approached the project with a focus on enhancing communal areas and promoting meaningful interactions between carers and patients.

Opportunities
• Excellent viewpoints across to the estuary, moor, and Lemon Valley, from the upper (northern) ridgeline, which is rugged and provides a wonderful sense of openness.
• Links to Seale Hayne can offer access
to, and promotion opportunities for, the numerous local businesses on-site at Seale Hayne and could compliment future mixed-use redevelopment.
• The lower parts of this phase could
provide public open space as part of
potential future mixed-use redevelopment, with links into Bradmore Hilltop Park, to ensure wider green connections.
Delivery
• Public footpaths via the Seale Hayne
Green Spaces area should be secured as part of the Bradmore Hilltop Park delivery and should complement any potential future Seale Hayne redevelopment to mixed use (whilst continuing to support the local SMEs)
• Enabling onward connectivity, via
Houghton Barton development, enable
linkage from Bradmore Hilltop Park to the new road with active travel route will be important.
