Artistic director Alberto Macías is a native of the border region of El Paso, TX, and Ciudad Juárez. He specializes in the historically informed performance on the viola da gamba and cello.
Mr. Macías is co-founder of El Paso Barroco and takes great joy in introducing audiences to historical musical traditions on the border.

El Paso Barroco and the @elpasomuseumofart present Angels, Demons, and Nymphs, a concert of French Baroque music exploring myth, poetry, and the timeless theme of love as a bridge between the human and the divine.
The concert features baritone @johndaugherty90 Assistant Professor and Director of the Opera Program at the University of North Florida (UNF), who will perform Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Thétis. This secular cantata tells the story of the sea goddess Thetis, known in Greek mythology as the mother of Achilles.
This program brings together works by some of the most celebrated composers of the French Baroque. Their music reveals a central idea shared across these stories: that love, whether divine or human, stands as the ultimate virtue. This is a free event.

Dr. Daugherty maintains an active international career in opera, song, and oratorio, performing repertoire spanning a wide range of genres and styles. His recent stage roles include Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Joseph De Rocher (Heggie’s Dead Man Walking), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), The King (Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King), and Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette).
