Hello you,
I hope you’re holding up — thriving, even, when you can. These feel like very strange and turbulent times to be living through. And yet, here we all are, still making things, and still trying to reach out to one another.
I have a new solo album coming out on May 22nd. It is called Blue Morpho.
It was co-written and produced with Paul Epworth and Riley MacIntyre, and mixed by Ben Baptie. I’m so grateful for the extraordinary players who helped make it come alive — Philip Selway, Dave Okumu, ESKA, Shabaka Hutchings, Nick Ramm, Dan See, Crispin Spry Robinson, Yves Fernandez, Luke Mullen, and others. Musicians whose presence changes everything.
A single - also called Blue Morpho - is out today, with a video.
There’s a short film too, shot in Wales, where much of the album was written, recorded and dreamt up. These songs came out of a dark place, but as Wendell Berry writes, ‘the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.’ There was deep beauty and a profound sense of grace in that place.
I’m also pleased to announce that there will be screening events for the film held in London on March 24th, Paris on March 25th, and Oxford March 26th. Sign up to my mailing list for a chance to attend London or Paris. Tickets for Oxford are on sale soon.
Later in the year, we will be playing these songs live. We would love to share them with you in a room somewhere out there.
Thank you.
With love and gratitude,
🙏Ed
Thank you Glastonbury.
Thank you to everyone who made this extraordinary festival happen. The volunteers who dedicated countless hours, the crews who worked tirelessly, always with a smile on their face. And to every artist who performed.
Particular gratitude and love to the Eavis family, especially @emily_eavis , for opening their farm and home to all of us with such remarkable love and generosity of spirit.
We all needed that. Especially at this time.
The moments that made it:
1. @ca7rielypacoamoroso - What a stellar performance.
2. @loylecarner headlining the Other Stage. So beautiful.. so heartfelt .. the camera work was exceptional, capturing every tender note.
3. @kneecap32 - An incredible display of power, courage and humour in the face of extraordinary pressure. Their performance was fearless and their rapping in Gaelic inspiring. Free Palestine.
4. @blackcountrynewroad a sublime set delivered in the heat of Sunday .. so incredibly beautiful.. extraordinary songs and musicians. So good to see them after.
5. Descending into @shangrilaglasto with our crew and kids .. so nice to be able to party with your kids and then watch them head off to @thenycdownlow . Parenting goals right there.😂
6. Dee and everyone at the Park Tipi field who always look after us. Can’t thank them enough for the love and care they show everyone.
7. Watching Sing in the @piltonpalais with our group and my lovely lovely friend the director of the film, Garth.
8. To everyone who came up and said hello. Lots of lovely words. Every single conversation was a highlight.. I loved meeting you.
Glastonbury you reconnected me with who I am. All love ❤️ ❤️❤️

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR PHILIP
All love ❤️❤️❤️
Not sure where this was taken .. maybe even pre Radiohead when you were in the mighty Jungle Telegraph and I didn’t dare speak to you because you were one of the cool ones in the year above …
Still one of the cool ones ❤️❤️❤️
Let us not follow vulgar leaders
Who exploit the fear of death,
And promise the bliss of salvation.
If we are truly happy,
They will have nothing to offer.
“Some leaders use threats to win adherents. They invoke death to force good behaviour and to herd people toward Paradise.
Others woo with grand promises. If you have no satisfaction, they offer bliss. If you feel inadequate, they offer success. If you are lonely, they offer acceptance…..
If we attain freedom from the fear of death, a sound way of health, and a path of understanding through life, there is happiness and no need for false leaders.”

I’m not a Christian but I have a deep connection with Spirit…. which is at the heart of every religion … I recognise that it’s always been there but now it feels strong and palpable.
This is the magnificence of the Sagrada Familia which we visited over the Christmas period. It affected me deeply .. it’s a modern temple .. Gaudi bringing the natural world into this structure … that’s where I connect and find my God …out there in Nature … and in extraordinarily beautiful places like this.
🙏❤️
