Enza Construction marks the official opening of the Senqu Bridge in Lesotho’s Mokhotlong District on 22 April 2026, a significant milestone delivered as part of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
As part of the WRES Joint Venture, led by Webuild, Enza Construction contributed to the delivery of this complex infrastructure project, working alongside project partners to achieve a successful outcome.
Spanning 825 metres and rising 90 metres above the valley, the Senqu Bridge is the largest of three bridges constructed under Phase II. Built to respond to the demands of Lesotho’s mountainous terrain, the bridge ensures the continued operation of the A1 route between Mokhotlong and Maseru, maintaining essential access for communities and economic activity as the Polihali Dam reservoir comes into operation.
The project highlights Enza Construction’s role within large-scale joint ventures, contributing to technically demanding work while maintaining a consistent focus on quality, safety and collaboration on site.
Beyond construction, the Senqu Bridge has delivered notable socio-economic impact , generating approximately 250,000 person-days of employment and engaging up to 1,200 workers at peak, the majority from local communities. The project also created opportunities for local businesses across both South Africa and Lesotho.
Once complete, Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project including the Polihali Dam and transfer tunnel to the Katse Dam will significantly increase the supply of water to South Africa’s Vaal River System, supporting long-term water security in the region.
For Enza Construction, this milestone reflects the importance of partnership and the value of contributing to infrastructure that supports regional growth.
On 17 April 2026, Enza Construction was pleased to participate in the Wits STEM Career Fair 2026, hosted at the Wits Science Stadium, Braamfontein Campus West.
The event provided a valuable platform to engage with final-year students and postgraduates alumni of the University of the Witwatersrand pursuing careers in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Property Development, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering. Throughout the course of the day, our team had the opportunity to meet prospective candidates, share insight into the work we undertake across the built environment, and outline the range of opportunities available within our organisation, including learnerships and graduate development programmes.
Initiatives of this nature remain central to our long-term talent strategy. They enable us to identify emerging professionals, foster meaningful relationships with leading academic institutions, and contribute to the development of a robust pipeline of skills for the South African construction and infrastructure sector.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the University of the Witwatersrand for convening a well-organised and impactful event, and to each student who took the time to engage with our representatives. The calibre, professionalism and ambition demonstrated by those we met reinforced our confidence in the next generation of professionals.
