Birds connect us in ways we often don’t see until we slow down and look.
This year’s World Migratory Bird Day at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat brought our community together for a day rooted in curiosity, care, and shared purpose. From guided walks to hands-on learning, every moment offered a chance to better understand the journeys happening above us every day.
We are grateful to all who joined, supported, and helped create such a meaningful experience. When people come together with intention, even small actions can contribute to something much larger.

We hope to see you tomorrow at the World Migratory Bird Day of the Rockies event at Walden Ponds in Boulder from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m!
Residents are invited to celebrate birds and connect with nature at the region’s largest bird conservation event, World Migratory Bird Day of the Rockies. The free, family-friendly festival takes place Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat as part of a three-day celebration from May 15–17.
Hosted by the Boulder-based nonprofit Environment for the Americas, the event brings together local organizations, educators, and bird enthusiasts for a morning of birdwatching, hands-on activities, and conservation learning.
This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts,” focuses on how community science contributes to tracking bird populations and informing conservation work. The event comes at a time of continued decline in bird populations across North America, with organizers encouraging simple actions that support birds and their habitats.
Tomorrow is the day.
Plan your visit to Walden Ponds and join us for a morning full of birds, learning, and community.

Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day 🌎♿🐦
On this day, we recognize the importance of building spaces, experiences, and communities that are accessible to everyone in honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
We are also excited to welcome the 2026 cohort of the Environment for the Americas Let’s Go Birding Internship Program, a group of emerging conservation leaders working to make birding and public lands more inclusive.
This year’s interns bring lived experience, professional training, and a shared commitment to accessibility in conservation:
At Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Zackary Benz and Amanda Charter are advancing inclusion in outdoor spaces, drawing from both personal experience and professional interests in accessibility and equitable access to nature.
At Rocky Mountain National Park, Aidan Brown brings expertise in special education and accessibility, focused on creating more inclusive learning and outdoor environments.
At Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument, Vincent Pearson is passionate about science communication, while AG Yurkutat integrates conservation, geospatial science, and lived experience to support more accessible approaches to birding and research.
At Colorado National Monument, Lily Zavarella is focused on biodiversity, ecology, and ensuring that everyone can access and enjoy nature.
Together, this cohort reflects a simple but powerful truth: accessibility strengthens conservation. When more people can participate, learn, and engage, our understanding of the natural world grows stronger.

It’s an exciting week for interns with Environment for the Americas and @npsyouth !
Our Fish and Feathers and Let’s Go Bird interns are gathering at Rocky Mountain National Park for orientation and training before heading out to parks and public lands across the country for the summer.
Throughout the week, interns are building skills in bird identification, optics, accessibility, interpretation, bird banding, birding ethics, storytelling, communications, and conservation outreach — all while connecting with one another and our incredible team of supervisors and managers. They’re also learning how to host World Migratory Bird Day events at their sites and inspire communities through conservation education.
This orientation is about more than training, it’s about preparing the next generation of environmental leaders and creating connections through birds, public lands, and community.
We’re so proud of these interns for stepping into this work with passion and dedication. Thank you for being environmental stewards and ambassadors for conservation. We can’t wait to see where this summer takes you and all that you’ll accomplish in your programs.
Here are a few photos from orientation so far! 📸✨
