On Wednesday, we had the honor of celebrating 65 years of @brunswickrecords — a true pillar of Chicago Soul. 🖤🎶
After Vee Jay Records closed, Brunswick carried the torch, and our very own 1449 S. Michigan became home to legends like The Chi-Lites, Jackie Wilson, and Barbara Acklin.
Four years ago, we dedicated this space to Vee Jay’s legacy. This week, we proudly add the history of Brunswick onto our walls — signifying 65 years of powerful legacy and timeless sound.
This celebration focused on honoring one of Brunswick’s most iconic artists — Marshall Thompson, @therealchilites the last man standing of The Chi-Lites. His presence reminded us of the deep roots and enduring spirit of Chicago Soul.
We were blessed to be surrounded by other legends — from Gene Chandler, to Jackie Records, wife of the late Eugene Record , to George Daniels @gdaniels44 , and Somatta Acklin @samottaacklin daughter of the incomparable Barbara Acklin — plus countless other notable Chicago artists, writers, radio personalities and visionaries who helped shape this legacy.
We’re now home to 8 new Brunswick plaques, proudly displayed in our Hall of Fame.
We are so honored to carry this torch forward — lighting the path for the next generation of phenomenal Chicago soul, r&b, and jazz artists.
