~~>Having lived with two Henley’s for some time, I can fully appreciate how they envelope me. The objective of her art is to connect the familiar with the nostalgic, to provide her audience with a vision of something that can seem so close, and yet at the same time, impossibly far. With time as the underlying present, yet invisible dimension. She often focuses on historically significant mechanical innovations of the past. And much like us, there is a certain mortality in these devices. Once proud modern leaps forward, and now, retro-modern ghosts from a time forgotten. The more you investigate the imagery, the greater you appreciate the depth of the connections.
The gift of a great Artist is not only their ability to express themselves in their work, but also their ability to orchestrate the effect that the work has on its audience. A skill possessed by few.
Henley often paints seemingly mundane yet deceptively significant pieces of technological history. Very selective in her subject matter and disciplined in her process, she will acquire the piece, let it consume her, photograph it from every angle, understand it from every vantage point. The result is a work that’s a living, breathing, multidimensional expression of her own gifted perspective, connecting the artist, the subject, and the viewer, in an image that can astonishingly be physically present, and simultaneously appear as a memory.
Our appreciation of Henley’s work has driven our goal to make it accessible to our audience. Whether it graces the wall of a living room, or an office, or it’s an audio-complementary piece, that decorates the wall of a dedicated listening room, we plan to provide an opportunity for others to enjoy what we have experienced.
