#FocusOn In his practice, Enrique Ramírez combines video, photography, sound, and in stallation to explore narrative forms in which dream and reality merge, transcending boundaries and historical periods. Maintaining a delicate balance between the poetic and the political, Ramírez constructs layered narratives centered on a recurring, almost obsessive element: the sea. A space of memory in perpetual motion, the sea becomes a site of narrative projection where the destiny of Chile, his country of origin, intertwines with broader histories of travel, conquest, and migration. The exhibition layout, conceived as a temporal sequence, spans a wide range of techniques and materials, including photography, collage, installations, video, sculpture, and sound. Ramìrez works invite viewers to slow down and inhabit moments of waiting, loss, and hope. On view ↘ Make Haste Slowly – Conversation Piece Part XI Alicja Kwade × Paul Maheke × Enrique Ramírez × Prem Sahib × Henry Taylor 📍 Fondazione Memmo, Rome 🗓 January 15–May 12, 2026. Inspired by the Latin phrase festina lente (“make haste slowly”), the exhibition explores the tension between urgency and slowness, intuition and duration. Through newly commissioned and site-specific works, the artists reflect on time, memory, and transformation, turning the artwork into a poetic timekeeper. Very happy to present my work at Fondazione Memmo in Rome. The exhibition unfolds as a timeline, where video, photography, sound, collage, and installation come together as layers of time and memory. The sea runs through the project as a space of transit, disappearance, and projection, moving between the poetic and the political. AFFRETTATI LENTAMENTE: Conversation Piece Part XI’ runs from 15 January to 12 April 2026, curated by Marcello Smarrelli @marcellosmarrelli , featuring works by Alicja Kwade, Paul Maheke, Prem Sahib, Henry Taylor, and myself. Thanks you to @fondazionememmo Marcello Smarrelli, Angelica Gatto, and the entire team for the invitation, support, and for making this exhibition possible. After studying film and music, Enrique Ramirez joined Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains. Working across film, installation, and photography, he investigates history and the contemporary world through layered visual and auditory narratives. At the core of his practice, the sea holds a privileged place: a space of passage, memory, and tension. Water becomes both border and archive, a way to reflect on uprootedness, distance, and the fragility of the human condition. Among his recent exhibitions are: “The gesture where the sea is made”, Michael Rein, Brussels (2025); “Admist the tumult of silent eyes”, curators Wang Jiang & Yu Yue,Tang+Yao gallery, Beijing (2024); “El lento clamor del viento”, galerie Michel Rein, Paris(2023); “El Imposible Paisaje”, Parque de la memoria, Buenos Aires (2023); “L’Outre paysage”, Louvre-Lens, Lens (2022); “Nos fuimos volviendo viento”, galerie Leyendecker, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, (2022). He is a fellow at the Accademia di Francia Villa Medici (2025/26). Una distanza senza rive. “Among the uprooted, a rift: a river, an ocean, a distance without shores.” The project will take place at the Dogana d’Acqua in Verona — a place of crossings, memory, and silence. A sound performance and luminous installation that speak of migration, borders, and the invisible ties between bodies and water.

Enrique Ramírez – Mirror A suspended sail, turned upside down, becomes a map. Its contours echo América Invertida (1943) by Uruguayan artist Joaquín Torres García — a symbolic reversal of North and South that reclaims Latin America’s centrality in the world. In Mirror, the sail no longer navigates the sea — it becomes a landscape, a poetic and political gesture. A way to look at the world differently, from the South looking North. The work is presented as part of minimal, minimal, a group exhibition at Poush (La Coupole, Aubervilliers) from May 22 to July 19, 2025, curated by Yvannoé Kruger. Bringing together 24 artists, the show reflects on reduction, traces, and mass-produced objects imbued with history. It invites us to focus on discreet forms and silent gestures that, in their simplicity, speak profoundly of the world.
