A Year Ago, when the world was a little less horrible, I had the great honor of conducting a ten day long residency and workshop at the @forientetl in East Timor, and it was one of the best times of my life. A dedicated core of actors, sculptors and other artists worked for hours every day until together we created the Mesin, a kind of analog moving Living Noisy Garbage Opera Parade & Machine to Make Changes In the World. We fused puppetry, costuming, trash philosophy, theater and performance art and public interventions, and everyone went So Hard. These are some highlights of our processes. Theres so much more to share, and so many undocumented moments I wish we had. Knocked my socks off. Thanks a million to everyone who helped make this happen! I hope to go back someday and tour all 13 provinces of Timor with this group. @gusmaoratna @aidaamaraldacosta ... i cant find anyone else's ig :( But Fles, Aswyh, Joanna... thank you all so much. Hope to see you again soon.

We are delighted at long last to announce the formation of MegaFawn, a new performance collective exploring ecological catastrophe through epic literature, beginning with the Epic of Gilgamesh. Ron Shalom and Kalan Sherrard have worked together for 17 years in many configurations and for the past two years we have been piling up research and development towards this fundamental dream opus. Gilgamesh is our everything. It is the first (non)-story, a hodgepodge of translations, additions, subtexts, lacunae, impossible and lost meanings – arguably the most seminal story of Western literature, perhaps infecting the civilized mind with the virus of narrative. It is a story of love, immortality, lust, power, humanity's break from the ancient past, and the ontological crisis between Nature and Civilization. Since 2024, we have been immersed in this story. Thanks in part to the generosity of curators, historians, and Assyriologists who have guided us thus far, we've begun to swim in the oceans of scholarship that surround the Epic. We are students of sun- and oven-baked bricks, cuneiform engraving, lapis lazuli refinement, the pictography of cylinder seals, and the uncountable interconnections between the world of Gilgamesh and the world we live in now. Like the Epic itself and the millennia of lives it has lived, our interpretation of Gilgamesh will evolve and mutate with each performance, interwoven with the astounding tales of its loss, rediscovery, and translation. We are thrilled to present workshop performances for you this May and June in New York City, as we work towards our dream of bringing our Gilgamesh to its place of origin, the city of Uruk in modern Iraq. We're grateful for the support of a Henson Foundation grant as we pursue this work. We'll be posting performance updates here, along with snippets of what we're creating. *P.S. we have a SPECIAL PRIZE to anyone who can decode the cuneiform written on that flood tablet mask and an EXTRA SPECIAL PRIZE to anyone who can explain or force it to make sense*

ECO-ART INSTITUTE This has been a really hard year. The forest school my grandmother founded 55 years ago in Cascadia closed suddenly last June and I came home to try to save the forest and see what phoenix might rise. I've been angling towards the creation of some kind of Eco Art institute out here, have welcomed a handful of artists for residencies, and have been trying to build a team and a plan for the place amidst the complex uncertainty and deep sadness of worlds big and small. I'm hoping this month can be a kind a pilot for part of what the space can be & we'll have a little bevy of events: -Wednesday art nights from 5pm -Puppet Camp July 10-12 -A Performance Day July 13 -and a handful of workshops and residencies DM for more info! Residents have been asked to [1] Do Something With The Forest, and [2] Develop and/or Share a Workshop, with many other possibilities abounding. If you'd like to nominate someone or are interested yourself, please let me know! I'd love folks insight, advice, and connections to similar projects that might offer guidance and support to this endeavor, local PNW organizations, etc...and also zany left field ideas of projects for a tiny little rainforest floating in a sea of suburbs. Slug rehab zoo, Moss exploratorium, Anti-Suburban Praxis Thinktank, Wilderness adventure playground, Feral Theater...Go! Slides: 1-3. Installations in the forest, including a collaborative Humbaba/Forest Spirit I made with students in 2022 4-5. My Comparative Literature Outdoor Class/Room 6. My Nana Young 7. Students Silhouetted

'been making these Machines To Make Changes In The World for a while now, each one looks and works differently, but they're all made almost completely from #Garbage. They're certainly a better way to change the world than #Instagram. Slides are as follows: 1. Panorama of the most recent device at @vortexgoa Portugal with the wonderful @asamary333 2. Dregs of the East Timor edition at @forientetl thanks to the amazing @thomaswhenning [ more on this one soon, it was resplendent and performative woa! ] 3. A local eco-hero about to activate the Mexico City machine at @huertoromaverde [ wish there was a video of all the kids using it, they were off the hook! ] 4. An earlier version in Troglobal, France it is such a joy to make these. if you want one in your area, please let me know. might even be able to crank out some pocket sized shippable minis too if you ask real nice. #changetheworld #openmindeddogs #ontology #pataphysics #newinvention

In homage the French Resistance today, I want to finally post these historical images from 2017, when a Beef Tongue was discovered honorably mounted on the tomb of Anarchist Poet #ArthurRimbaud in Charleville-Mezieres after the biannual Festival Mondial du Marrionette. (Further spurious information or analysis anyone can excavate around the provenance or interpretation of this loving gesture would be much appreciated.) #Egalite #Fraternite #PlusBizarre Félicitations mes frères gaulois, vous avez réussi.
