i think ive re-configured my set-up to the point where the piece is SOLIDLY back in its legs. thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you eternally to everybody who contributed to the COREY’s GEAR REHABILITATION FUND 2026, which has been a HUGE part of making this show possible. I’ve never asked instagram dot com for help before &…what a humbling gift i’ve received (inthe shape of friends and loves and mentors and strangers). i don’t know quite how to handle that. i’m gonna try to give a big performance and then get back to eternal gratitude and some thank you notes.

Corey Smith (iel) est un·e compositeur·rice et interprète basé·e à Chicago, travaillant à la croisée de la musique expérimentale et de la performance live. Son travail s’inspire des traditions folkloriques américaines, des formes de la chanson pop et des pratiques performatives, brouillant souvent les frontières entre concert, conférence et action théâtrale. Ses projets récents explorent la résonance à la fois comme phénomène sonore et comme stratégie compositionnelle, en utilisant la performance comme un espace de métaphore queer, d’écoute attentive et de transformation matérielle. Le résultat est une performance intime, se déployant lentement, qui navigue entre tradition folklorique, drone et forme de chanson expérimentale.

The sewing machine and the hammered dulcimer form the core of two performances exploring repetition, resonance and the physical presence of sound.
𝐋𝐞𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫 @leocorreiadeverdier works with sewing machines as sounding bodies, developing their rhythmic and sonic possibilities.
𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡 @ennui2 works with hammered dulcimer, voice and electronics, exploring resonance as both acoustic phenomena and embodied process.
