Growing up rurally, Amie learned early on that problems don’t fix themselves. With no engineer nearby, she became the one to pull things apart, understand how they worked, and get them going again. That curiosity became the spark that led her toward engineering.
After finishing Year 13, she completed the ARA pre-trade course and explored different pathways, including maintenance, before discovering that general engineering was where she belonged.
Since joining ENI, Amie has gained hands-on experience across the trade and had the chance to work with advanced technology in our laser bay. Now coming to the end of her apprenticeship, just wrapping up her elective papers, she feels the variety of experiences has set her up well for the future, giving her the freedom to choose where she wants to specialise next.
At ENI, it’s been a privilege to support people like Amie, the next generation of skilled tradespeople. We love creating opportunities, offering real experience with advanced technology, and helping build a genuine pathway into the industry.

Façades aren’t just walls...they’re the face of a building. They protect, and shape the structure while reflecting a company’s style and identity.
Our latest project at Miles Toyota combines precision engineering with smart design to create a standout exterior that’s functional and visually striking.
Last week we welcomed a group of Year 12 students from Rolleston College, along with Grant from Competenz.
The visit was part of his work promoting apprenticeships and trades as rewarding career pathways across the South Island.
We shared a bit about who we are and what we do at ENI Manufacturing. Danny, our Operations Manager, talked about his own journey — from trade training to university to leadership — and Amie, one of our apprentices, shared her experience as she nears completion of her general engineering qualification.
The visit wrapped up with a workshop tour, plenty of great questions, and genuine enthusiasm from the students. It’s always encouraging to see young people curious about where a career in the trades can take them.
A big thanks to Grant and Denise for organising the visit and helping inspire the next generation of tradespeople.
Big news!
3WS is now a fully owned subsidiary of ENI Manufacturing.
This is an exciting new chapter, bringing together two like-minded teams to deliver even greater capability, precision, and innovation.
3WS adds strong expertise in tube laser, CNC machining, and specialised welding certifications, perfectly complementing ENI’s strengths. Together, we’ll keep delivering the high-quality solutions and service we’re known and trusted for while unlocking new possibilities.
Over the coming months, we’ll work closely with the 3WS team to ensure a smooth and considered transition. For customers, it’s business as usual — just with a stronger team behind the work.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and at ENI, we know that looking after each other is just as important as getting the job done.
This week we took some time out for a team BBQ lunch, a chance to step away from the tools, have a laugh, and check in with one another. Big thanks to Chris and the team at OneStaff for lending us the BBQ for the day.
Sometimes the best support is just spending time together.
~From School to Skilled: Robbie’s Journey into Light Fabrication~
Meet Robbie — our first-year apprentice at ENI Manufacturing. In 2022, he made the bold decision to leave school at the end of Year 12 to pursue a hands-on career in light fabrication.
It wasn’t an easy call. Like many parents, his mum had concerns. But Robbie’s passion for engineering, paired with hands-on experience through the Gateway program and support from his teachers, gave him clarity.
“Gateway was awesome — I felt so much more productive, like the work I was doing really mattered.”
Robbie’s love for creating, building, and problem-solving — both in the workshop and in his stock car racing hobby — led him straight to an apprenticeship with us.
Since joining ENI, Robbie has thrived. He’s working alongside past apprentices and experienced team members, learning to run robots, adjust programs, and balance practical work with theory. “It’s hard, but worth it. Seeing others work through the same challenges is motivating. And because the paperwork actually matches what I do on the job, it all feels like it has a purpose.”
But it’s more than just skills. Robbie says this journey has helped him grow in confidence, responsibility, and maturity — valuable traits both on and off the job.
His advice for others thinking about leaving school? “Have a plan. Know what you want to achieve. Whether it’s work or more learning, step into something that sets you up for your future.”
Robbie’s just getting started — with his first block course around the corner, and big goals for project planning and leading larger jobs ahead.
We’re proud to have him on the team, and even prouder to help shape the next generation of skilled fabricators.

Today at ENI Manufacturing, we turned the place pink in support of Pink Shirt Day!
A big thanks to everyone who got involved, wore pink, and helped raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation — together we’re helping build kinder, more inclusive spaces.
We’re excited to announce the appointment of Rick Herd as the new Chairperson of ENI Manufacturing!
Rick brings nearly 50 years of experience in engineering and construction, including key leadership roles at Brightwater Engineering and as CEO of Naylor Love Construction, where he helped grow the company into one of New Zealand’s largest privately-owned construction firms. His deep industry expertise and commitment to innovation align perfectly with ENI’s values of quality, reliability, and sustainability. As we continue to build on over 30 years of "making metal work," Rick’s leadership will be instrumental in guiding our next chapter.
At the same time, we extend our sincere thanks to Bruce Matheson and Trevor Thornton, who are stepping down from the board after years of dedicated service—their contributions have been invaluable, and we’re deeply grateful for the wisdom and commitment they’ve brought to ENI.
Our friends at GLASS TEAM LTD have shared these awesome images showing their progress on the ceramic, digitally printed, laminated canopy panels for our large shelter project in Tauranga for the Tauranga City Council . Similar to the pictured shelters we did for Palmerston North City Council, we're very excited to be getting this onsite over the next few weeks!
We were honoured to host Matt Fenn at ENI Manufacturing for a powerful talk on well-being and resilience. Known as New Zealand’s Forrest Gump, Matt has pushed the limits of human endurance, running over 3,400 km in 61 days to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. His journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of determination, grit, and community.
One of the key takeaways from Matt’s talk was the concept of ‘Doubling.’ In military terms, this means stepping in to help a teammate when they’re struggling—matching their pace, providing support, and ensuring they keep moving forward. Resilience isn’t just about individual endurance; it’s about teamwork, manaakitanga (care and support), and never leaving anyone behind.
A huge thank you to Matt for sharing his story and inspiring us to face challenges with courage, strength, and unwavering support for each other. #Wellbeing #Resilience #MentalHealth #Teamwork #Manaakitanga #Courage
