I sat with some brothers and we discussed grieving. There is a rhythm to it that we all cycle through. What we noticed is that there will come a point where you have a choice in what you learn and takeaway from the life changing event. Emotions are involved and maturity level is a big factor but the fact remains the same, what have you learned from this experience? What will you takeaway from this experience?
Diagnosed by science, healed by patience. Grief follows patterns: shock, processing, rebuilding. I choose to look at the files of that experience and grow through self examination and reflection, free takeaways, etc.
My homie Ty believed in me so much, that he believed in me more than I did. There’s something special about that, and I’m committed to learning that gift he gave me in that.

Grief isn’t a moment; it’s a process I’m learning to sit with. Though I have experienced a lot of loss when it comes to close family and friends, it feels weird being used to it but in shock at the same time when it happens. I have used grief to grow in reflection and examine the complexity of life itself, as we know it.
Clinically, it’s normal to cycle through stages, overwhelmed, and slow breaths. Identifying emotions, triggers, weaknesses, while prioritizing rest, boundaries, and self worth has been a good balance I’ve experienced. Everyone grieves differently, but utilizing tools like this with direct and effective communication can create a healthy space for yourself and those around you.
I’m still working through grief and I know others are too, so do yourself a favor and honor your loved ones who have passed by slowing down, appreciating the beautiful things in life and yourself.
