T-minus just over one month until 73 Seconds blasts off.
Jared Mezzocchi @jaredmezzocchi sets out across the cosmos, charting constellations, chasing signals, and uncovering a story that begins somewhere much closer to home. What starts as an attempt to understand his family becomes a collision of memory, inheritance, and the truths that arrive too late.
Part documentary, part technical feat, all true story. 73 Seconds, directed and co-developed by Aya Ogawa @ayagwa , transforms analog machines into portals, and a single performer into an entire universe.
This spring, En Garde Arts takes over the 64-seat planetarium inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club @girlsclubny , an intimate dome built for the stars, now holding something far more human.
Previews are nearly SOLD OUT.

Hidden inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club @girlsclubny , a 64-seat planetarium built for stargazing becomes our stage.
For 21 performances, En Garde Arts transforms this dome into an intimate space for storytelling with the world premiere of 73 Seconds, created, written, and performed by Jared Mezzocchi @jaredmezzocchi , directed by Aya Ogawa @ayagwa , an Obie Award–winning creative team.
In 73 Seconds, Mezzocchi cracks open the quiet mysteries of his family’s past. What begins as a son’s attempt to understand his mother spirals into a decades-spanning excavation of memory, legacy, and the stories we inherit, and the ones we almost never hear.
Using analog technology from the 1980s, overhead projectors, cassette tapes, and VHS camcorders, Jared constructs a live documentary beneath the stars, blending intimate storytelling with lo-fi theatrical magic.

We couldn’t be happier for the incredible artists who brought this work to life, especially Jared Mezzocchi, who created, wrote, and performs this solo piece each night, and Aya Ogawa for their powerful vision and collaboration.
73 Seconds tells the story of a son trying to piece together family histories that arrive too late. It lives in the fragile line between the personal and the cosmic.
It has been a joy to share this moving new work with our sold-out preview audiences, and we cannot wait to continue welcoming more people into New York’s most intimate planetarium, tucked inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

Then check out the En Garde Arts presentation of Jared Mezzocchi's world premiere show, 73 Seconds, set inside the planetarium at the Lower East Side Girls Club! In 73 Seconds, two-time Obie Award–winning artist Jared Mezzocchi tells the true story of his relationship to his mother after learning she once worked at NASA and had been a contender for a space mission. Growing up, this chapter of her life was unknown to him. Outer space, family, and our inability to cope with long-term catastrophe collide in 73 Seconds as Mezzocchi telescopes between personal grief and collective memory, probing the stories we inherit, and the ones we almost never hear. This is one of the shows we're excited about this month!
