The Circus is in town!! 🎪 East London’s award-winning independent contemporary Circus company, @revelpucks has come to Barnet (Oak Hill Park) with their high-energy family show, The Glimmer Daze Gambit, and it was absolutely fantastic! ✨ We all had so much fun watching the exhilarating feats of the acrobats, fun contemporary clowns (minus scary make-up! 🤡) and a whole variety of performers that had us literally on the edge of our seats. The performers did a brilliant job of involving the audience too, which made the experience feel really engaging. The outside set up had festival feels with drinks and snacks available and free circus toys to play around with beforehand and during the interval. It really was a joyful night - highly recommend catching it if you can! I was so upset this week when a faulty boiler leak completely ruined my most treasured cookbooks, including my favourite, ‘Taverna’ which @georginahayden had signed for me at a lovely evening at @deli_on_the_green . But life has a funny way of balancing things out sometimes and that very same day my copy of MEDesque arrived and my dad turned up with some tomato plants for the garden which somehow felt perfectly fitting and cheered me right up! 🍅 If you haven’t discovered Georgina Hayden’s cookbooks yet, I can’t recommend them enough. Springtime at Lewis of London is back! Is there any better way of seeing in Spring than stroking a baby lamb and holding a fluffy chick!? 🐣 We always love a trip to @lewis_of_london and their events seem to get better every year. There are so many cute details and they’ve added some additional outdoor seating too. We were caught by a bit of rain but that didn’t dampen the fun. There are plenty of covered areas, so it’s still a great option even on a rainy day and of course, ice cream is always must whatever the weather! Thanks to the team and farmer Dan for teaching us all about the animals too. @lewis_of_london is always a brilliant and great value half term option that we all love! If you want to get your kids cycling by summer you must check out @bluecycletraining_ We had heard really good things about Blue Cycle Training who have 90% of customers riding after 1 lesson, but I had to see to really believe it! We’ve attempted to try and teach the girls ourselves, but it usually ends in tantrums (on both sides 😅) so having someone new teach them made for an all round calmer experience… Peter who runs @bluecycletraining_ , has years of experience and really gave the girls the confidence they needed from the outset, and with a bit of gentle guidance, they were both cycling freely in under an hour and were even navigating turns with ease. As someone who only learnt to ride a bike at the age of 19 despite numerous efforts from my poor parents, friends and siblings to teach me, I really value the importance of learning to cycle because I missed out on it for so many years of my childhood. The girls were so chuffed with their certificates at the end that they both skipped into school this morning eager to show them to their teachers. I honestly can’t recommend @bluecycletraining_ enough!! Peter also offers adult lessons too (It’s never too late…!) as well as cycling agility lessons, bicycle hire and bicycle birthday parties. I’m now so excited for the summer months where we can go bike riding as a family! Steak Night - The Ridings If you’re a fan of a perfectly cooked steak and the charm of a beautiful countryside setting, @theridings_theobaldsestate is the ideal backdrop for an unforgettable evening. We recently paid a return visit to try out their Steak Night, and it was an absolute treat from start to finish. While the Côte de Boeuf was the star of the show, every dish on the table was seriously impressive. The tenderstem broccoli with toasted almonds and maple butter and the mac ‘n’ cheese, with a crunchy breadcrumb top were standout sides. The gem lettuce with ceasar dressing, parmesan and crispy onions was also delicious… who knew lettuce could taste that good! A special mention goes to Chef Frank, who talked us through each dish with such genuine passion and pride. The Côte de Boeuf paired beautifully with a glass of Malbec, and we also enjoyed a Prosecco and one (or two!) cocktails. In fact, we enjoyed them so much that we may have lingered at the bar for a couple more afterwards... We were so full from our mains that we opted to share a Basque cheesecake, luckily he wasn’t measuring… and I quietly claimed the larger half! As The Ridings is set within 55 acres of land it feels like a countryside escape, yet it’s close enough to home to hop in a cab back. It really does offer the best of everything… a beautiful space, fantastic service, exceptional food, and incredible cocktails. HAIR LAB - HAIR SALON Let’s face it, winter can be a rather bleak time of year so focusing on self-care is really important during the grey months. As someone who has suffered with a bad neck on and off for many years, I thought that a Japanese Head Spa treatment at @hairlab.salonn would be just the ticket to relieve some tension and help with those winter blues. I’ve heard great things about Japanese Head Spas and was curious to try it out and see what the hype is all about and my goodness, I can confirm it was incredible. @hairlab.salonn is based in a home garden studio which owner, Jenny has turned into a relaxation haven. Jenny worked absolute wonders using various sensory techniques and it felt as though all the tension I had built up was just melted away. It was absolutely heavenly. It was interesting to learn that not only does the massage feel incredible but it also offers health and wellbeing benefits too. The treatment also includes a blow dry to leave you feeling fabulous both inside and out. ELLE NASH YOGA - FORTY CUPS I ended my weekend on a high after spending Sunday evening at a Vinyasa session with the lovely @elleflexflow at @thefortycups The Forty Cups is like a hidden sanctuary, and feels so far removed from the hustle bustle of the outside Hertford Road. It was as if I’d stepped into a different world for an hour! The space is beautiful, calming, and the perfect setting to unwind after a busy weekend and focus on some self-care. Elle guided us gently through each movement, and the focus on balance and breathwork worked wonders for my busy mind. I left the mat feeling lighter both physically and mentally. Elle’s yoga journey began as a personal search for relief from chronic pain, and she has since completed 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training in India, specialising in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga. Elle has recently brought her teachings to Enfield, and we’re lucky to have her! Elle currently runs two sessions each week: Wednesdays (7-8pm) and Sundays (6.30-7.30pm). Classes are £20 and include a healthy post-workout smoothie from @thefortycups If those times don’t quite work for you, Elle also runs private 1-1 lessons and give @elleflexflow a follow, as she’s hoping to add more classes soon.
