Maqluba is the taste of my home, especially the flavours from my family and my mother’s cooking. I’m not a cook myself; I’m a photographer, but I know exactly how my mother’s dishes taste. The chicken creates a warming broth in which the turmeric and cinnamon perfume the rice and vegetables. Calling my mother back home to make sure we got it right gave me even more comfort during uncertain times while living abroad. This work was created for @full__mag , following an invitation to contribute as a Palestinian photographer. I chose to document the making of my mother’s maqluba — ā€œthe taste of my home.ā€ I photographed the series, and the recipe was developed by @katehill.france , based on my mother’s cooking and the calls back home. Served upside down on a family platter, with new friends around me, making maqluba is a way of bringing a little piece of home with me. Cooking and eating together is such an essential part of family life; it’s a way for me to stay connected to my roots, even when I’m far away.

She doesn’t speak much when she works, but the clay understands. In her studio, silence is part of the process. I’ve watched her hands press and pull, Her pots come out like small miracles—tender, strong, alive. @tamsinjardinier

Besides my love for food photography, I have a deep curiosity for creative people and their worlds. There’s something so special about being invited into someone’s personal space — their studio, their corner of chaos or calm — and quietly observing how they work, how they think, how they feel. No pressure. Just a quiet intention to capture something real. @tamsinjardinier
