THE TRENTON ART FESTIVAL is a public art and mural festival founded and run by the Trenton Downtown Development Authority and The Mural People LLC. In September 2024 we will be adding 9 murals and 2 sculptures to the downtown district creating a new art destination in our community. Throughout the festival we will showcase the artists’ talents through murals, sculpture installations, art shows, and other creative events. Join us September 7-14 for a week full of art and fun!

Meet EMSKRIPT, one of our newest House of Tarot artists representing the Minor Arcana! Matt Thornton, aka EMSKRIPT, is an illustrator, muralist, and educator. For nine years, he has been working in self-publishing and freelance illustration, using a combination of traditional and digital media to create his work. His artistic style blends the bright, eye-catching colors of comics and cartoons, with rough ink textures, reflecting the grit and toughness associated with growing up in working-class Detroit. His work relies on iconography and symbolism. It makes translating his art to audiences much easier, showing them things that they recognize. Stylistically, comics and cartoons have always been what he uses as reference. Keeping the same expressive colors and linework, and maintaining the tropes and storytelling found in that medium, is an important element of his style. EMSKRIPT is the creator of the comic book “Doris”. He was a muralist of the Trenton Arts Festival and was a TEAD ONE Resident Artist in 2023. Now that the fun is done, I can post the obligatory reel. I think this is the first time I ever painted on a moving surface, so that was “exciting” lol. Shoutout to @seymor.detroit this couldn’t have got done without you, Killed it with the trees!! @jennyvaughn34 and @pattij.winter getting the community portion together! If you didn’t make down the opening weekend you still gotta check it out. It is an incredible park! No hyperbole, I can’t believe this is in Detroit! This is like one of things you see in other cities and be like “ Why don’t we have that where I’m from?” It’s that cool!!
