Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the first showings of The Light We Leave Behind. I’ve been working on this installation for months, and finally bringing its first version to life and sharing it with all of you was a dream come true. From the beginning, it was never meant to be a show, but a place where people could gather, feel a sense of community, and share a moment of presence together. If you were able to be there, I’d love to hear what stayed with you :) 1. The end of the final show 2. Staying up all night just trying to trigger a single light with the piano and being way too excited when it worked 3. A few days later, connecting multiple lights in my room to specific piano keys 4. Switching the type of lights and realizing they suddenly felt way snappier 5. Getting to 12 lights and finally being able to play it like a real instrument. 6. Hitting 20 lights and moving everything into the basement. 7. Getting to 30 lights and sending MIDI from Logic so I didn’t have to play every note myself. 8. Reaching 50 lights and renting a bigger space just to see what it could look like. 9. @mlebear playing the lights for the first time and realizing I could watch that forever. 10. Wanting the lights to feel more intentional, and with huge help from @aidenmagarian , building 60 fixtures at different heights 11. Sketches and mockups trying to figure out how people could sit inside the installation 12. Finding a soundstage big enough to test the full thing 13. A very long day and an army of friends and family setting everything up 14. Deciding the day of to add @julien_altmann on viola, even though it started as piano-only 15. Total chaos before every show, running around making sure every light worked 16. Handing out brochures when no one really knew what they were about to experience 17. The first line for the first show 18. A no-phone experience… except for one quiet moment we snuck in 19. The future 🫣 20. A light left behind
