Jokes have always helped me process whatever is going inside, positive and negative. I wrote these new punchlines when I was not feeling mentally well, lmao. Now I’m in therapy and taking care of myself, I’m super grateful for my life, but I still enjoy the truth of the writing and I think the political/cultural comparison is pretty funny. Especially after doing a shows in Pollock South Dakota, 250 person population, homophobic as hell, but they actually laughed at this. Sometimes I ask myself why I’m doing comedy. Sometimes I think it’d be nice to have a stable income and not have my deepest insecurities pointed out on the internet and seen by thousands of people. But, writing jokes that merge comedy and tragedy in a way that unites conflicting views and makes people not feel alone in their dark thoughts is pretty awesome, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop because I love it too much.
