Those who knew my dad know how much he loved The Smiths. Over the years of going to see the tribute band The Smyths, and with The Smiths albums being the soundtrack to our home, that love inevitably passed on to me. It was one of the many things that eventually pulled me down to Manchester.
I travelled all over with my dad for gigs, and The Smyths were a favourite for both of us.
On Friday night, the band kindly dedicated their Glasgow gig to my dad, and we were taken care of so warmly. It was so moving to see a community that my dad poured so much into over the years honour him in such a touching way.
And on top of that, at the start of my dad’s battle, Johnny Marr sent him a video for his birthday, something that moved us all in a way I still struggle to this day to put into words.
The night was beautiful, yet painful. Sending love to anyone who has lost a parent, it’s really bloody tough ❤️🩹
