Before this evening’s joy was a huge dose of morning and afternoon bookjoy thanks to Emma Otheguy
@emma.otheguy ! We hope by now she’s home sleeping because she visited not one, not two, but three (!!!) schools today to talk about her new book, Cousins in the Time of Magic, which will be releasing later this month on February 25! Lucky kids at Troup, Truman, and Spring Glen will be among the first to have it in hand. And today they were especially lucky to learn from Emma herself, in English and Spanish, about her motivations for writing, her process, and her latest literary achievement. Other topics of discussion… Latin America, colonization, the real reason people celebrate Cinco de Mayo (1862), and more. Even though the book is not out yet, you can preorder it from us and other independent bookstores and we hope you will! It’s a fun story of family, history, and magic with many lessons to offer alongside a great adventure. Plus Emma’s really cool, and somehow managed to be as engaging, energetic and magical on visit three as she was on visit one. Then again, we do have the best, sweetest, most talented students here in New Haven and what could be more energizing than that? Big big bookjoy to one and all! And big big love to public school librarians everywhere and to Ms. Rita, who manages two libraries here in New Haven
@troupschool and
@trumanschoolct and hosted her first ever author visit today; while both schools are so lucky to have her and she loves them both, let’s imagine what might be possible if every school had a full time librarian and let’s please insist on that… It’s what every public school, librarian, and student deserves! 🌈📚❤️ #possiblefutures #bookjoy #cousinsinthetimeofmagic #community #love
