At the end of last year, we received the Robin Boyd Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (New) for our Hedge and Arbour House @studio__bright .
The most prestigious single residential architecture award, it was a far away aspiration for me. The previous winners are practices I’ve revered my entire career. We designed the project in 2016 and there were many challenges ahead so to win this award has made it all the more rewarding. Only possible with a client who is committed to all things architecture and builders to bring it to life.
An excerpt from the national jury citation:
“The architects have found just the right balance between living well and modestly. Leaving this house, moving from the wild landscape through the manicured hedge, feels like we have been given a glimpse of a glorious future.”
Definitely grid worthy.

On Friday night Hedge and Arbour house won The Harold Desbrowe Annear Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (New) at the Victorian Architecture Awards.
It is such an honour to be recognised after many years of hard work. I’m feeling so very humbled and proud, a real career highlight. Thanks to Mel, SB team, our wonderful client and builder.
An excerpt from the jury’s citation: “the design is organised through a series of robust, low-maintenance layers-garden walls, arbour and landscape thresholds - that mediate privacy, topography and climatic conditions with remarkable clarity”
