Saturday (Aug 23rd) marked a year of probably one of my biggest accomplishments to date. And last year I was too scared to post about it. I was SO nervous to share that I had quit my 9-to-5 job. It felt so exposing and vulnerable. It’s taken a year for it to fully sink it but I am just so thankful to all of you who’ve booked with me (and continue to do so). You’ve given me so much joy and confidence. Thanking God who has provided for me and always eases my anxious heart. Expensive is a word I don’t love to use (especially when it comes to my photography business). To me, it has a negative connotation that the products and services received are overpriced and therefore not worth the cost. (Two statements that keep me up at night). HOWEVER, photoshoots ARE an investment. And there are many misconceptions and preconceived notions surrounding the cost associated with them. (So, I thought I’d say ‘hold my beer’ and I’m diving into the deep end at an attempt to give y’all more information as to what all goes into a shoot.) “Why are photoshoots sooooo expensive”, you may ask. Let’s break it down together! #1 (Good) Planning takes time. You may think I show up to a photoshoot with a camera and capture for an hour or two but what is really going on behind the scenes is that I’m… 1. Coordinating with venues and connecting with vendors to ensure availability 2. Scouting locations to get an idea of the space and brainstorming poses that not only fits within the area but makes sense for the couple (more on this later) *2.1 and sometimes even visiting at different times of the day to better understand how the light is effected) 3. Keeping lines of communication with all clients (new and veteran) open throughout the process. This gives me the full picture of your vision and hopefully puts you at ease throughout it all. I’m stating the obvious when I say weddings have (unfortunately) a funny way of flying by. Which is why it is so important to find moments to slow down and be present. One of my personal favorite parts of the day is early on, when the bridal party is getting ready. I love seeing the mom of the bride blink back tears as she helps her daughter into her gown. I adore the chatter of the bridesmaids during hair and makeup — you can feel the excitement and anticipation in the air. I’ve been lucky enough to spend two birthdays in Paris. The first, on my twentieth with my two best girls. Together we drank a bottle of wine at the Eiffel Tower and galavanted around the city before taking a pit stop for hot chocolate by the Arc. It was magical and one of my favorite birthdays ever. Who knew a decade later I’d be celebrating my 30th with my boyfriend as I played tour guide showing him my favorite spots in the same perfect city. I am so spoiled!
