Dear friends, I’d like to share with you the biggest project of my life so far: concluding my second Master’s degree by staging one of the earliest operatic works — “Rappresentatione di Anima, et di Corpo” (About Soul and Body) by Emilio de’ Cavalieri (Rome, 1600). I’m surprised by how this project has brought together pretty much everything I’ve learned throughout my life — from musical and organizational knowledge to all that staging can require: dramaturgy, scenography, costumes, directing, acting and singing — and by how fulfilled and truly happy doing all of this makes me feel! 😌 But the most joyful part of all of this is doing it alongside such a kind and resourceful artistic and coaching team, to whom I’m endlessly grateful: 🙏 SUPERVISORS: Deda Cristina Colonna, Lisandro Abadie, Marianna Meyer, Denim Szram, Johannes Keller, Martina Papiro and every teacher in my artistic path. Last Thursday was a special night. We got to spend it in a vacant bank building with my colleagues performing under a topic “Between two deaths”. 1) Firstly this topic brought a Lithuanian funeral game “Žalio vario” to my mind, and luckily 30+ people were brave enough to sing it in Lithuanian by heart. So precious. 🤍 2) As it happened to be the night before John Dowland’s funeral day exactly 400 years ago, we performed his “Flow my tears” in a tight bank vault, surrounded by empty safes, together with my Schola friends @hanna.horobets and @clemens_max 3) Then we explored the different faces and grimaces of grief in dark corners of the bank’s basement, performing Monteverdi’s SESTINA in a loop, together with @_sunitei_ @xeni_lem @flurin_herzig and @clemens_max , guided by a rising star director @rodrigomelendezaquino Thank you @raphael_sbrzesny and @hsmbasel_music_and_scene for this truly special opportunity. Emilė Ribokaitė @emile.ribo is an early music singer & stage creator from Lithuania. LMTA & Schola Cantorum Basiliensis alumna, currently finishing the MuST MA in Basel.
