29 years ago this month… Jeff Emig achieved his childhood dream of becoming a Supercross champion. The path definitely wasn’t easy, however all the stars aligned in 97’. Fresh off of a 96 outdoor title, which was a battle royale with MC, Fro was at his peak. He had all the confidence, style, and fitness in place to get the job done. The journey to the finale was far from easy. If you think Ken Roczen and Hunter Lawrence have it rough having to wait one week to settle this championship, think about the stress Emig and Co. had to deal with. Vegas was held on May 17. The penultimate round was held at a very muddy Irving round on April 26, in which Jeff won in clutch fashion. The win took his point’s lead from 6 to 13 points heading into Vegas. So, why wait almost one month for the series finale? Well, they were racing the Pro Motocross Championship! In between those two weeks were Hangtown and Glen Helen, the second and third round. Hey, no pressure on getting injured or focusing more on SX than outdoors. We’ll talk about how he dealt with the stress of all of this in the book, but these were definitely different times. How did Emig fair heading into Sin City? He went 1-2-1-1, setting himself up for another successful run at back-to-back outdoor championships. The magnitude of what he accomplished that night didn’t really hit Fro until he sat down in the Kawasaki truck after everything was over. He had a moment to reflect away from all the cameras, the trophies, and the rest of the distractions. The little kid from Missouri, who Team Green believed in at 14-years-old, came through and delivered them the biggest title in the sport. #jeffemig #emigautobiography #fro
