The only flaw with dogs is they don’t live long enough. I’m sad to share that Nala will only be with us for another couple days. Anyone who’d like to say goodbye, we’ll have pizza (her favorite) at the house Monday 5-7 PM
When I first met Emily, I remember thinking “what’s this sweet girl doing with this big scary dog?” I quickly learned that Nala was an extension of Emily and got to love them both.
Emily basically picked her up off the street in Miami as a tiny puppy. They had countless adventures and road tripped across the country like Thelma and Louise. When she was 11, worried that she could pass soon (normal lifespan for a mastiff), we adopted Creature with the hope that she could teach our next one how to be a good dog. It worked, with the bonus that the adopted sister/daughter kept her young, and Nala stayed with us another 5 great years.
My proudest achievement as a provider was buying this house so Nala got to have a yard for the first time.
She’ll be missed by all three us and countless friends over the years.
This is a “best of” Nala collection from the time I’ve known her. I started putting dog videos on a YouTube channel a few years ago just to clear space on my phone, and it’s now a little time capsule for our family.
Thanks again for everyone who’s loved Nala in person and through my posts, and supported Emily through this time.

Camping at Coachella, crashing a wedding, dissolving drugs in wet wipes, taking naked pics of each other, crying over boys, hooking up in a cemetery, getting tattoos together, helping me get a job, sweeping Savannah, convertible road trip, Russian bath houses, clubbing in Miami, yoga in the Cap d’Antibes, California farmers markets, Champagne squats, dancing, drinking, laughing… Your Cuban ass makes my life so much more fun, and I’ve loved you since that first day we went sailing with Jonathan. Life is brutal and beautiful, and I believe only worth living because of the people we meet and the relationships we build. You are one of these people, Emi. Who knew the best thing I would get out of the Cheesecake Factory would have been 2 Cubans.
