A cute montage of how my work has developed from May 2023 to now ✨
Still painting femme figures unapologetically resting , riding or raging and keeping on experimenting ✨
My art style is inspired by my design and art study and interests; Japanese woodblock printing, textiles, my love of interior spaces, interior scenes by Manet and Cassat, the joy and colours of Matisse and Gaugin.
I have a bachelor of design from UNSW: Art and Design and I worked for years as an interior architect and graphic designer doing digital illustration and textile design on the side. I’ve translated my digital illustration style, design and colour sensibility into paintings with flattened forms, hyper pigmented bold colour contrasts, with a focus on line and form over shading.
I am colour contrast and theory obsesseddd and one day I will be that old lady you see on the train dressed all in one colour.
Thanks for following this journey so excited to be full time on art now so I can make heaps of new work ✨
I've got a few new faces here so thought I'd introduce myself 🌻
I'm an artist who paints for the female gaze and I think about femininity, the body, mental health and contemplative moments. I love delving into how things feel and finding ways to visually depict these in paintings and illustrations. Recently my work has skewed towards depicting femme figures unapologetically lounging.
I loooove bright colour contrasts, and paint in a signature flattened style with bold bright colours and a focus on line and form over shading, to achieve this I use a type of matte paint that achieves the level of hyper pigmentation I'm looking for.
I've drawn and screenprinted textiles in a lowkey way for years but 2023 was the first year I've said 'fuck it I'm doing it'. In that time I've made a whole lot of works, done a wholeeee lot of events and met the loveliest people.
I live and work on Gadigal land, working out of @mothership.marrickville a super cute warehouse community of makers, musicians and artists, it's my happy place.
I live closeby with my husband Ro and cat friend Edamame who keep me grounded as I can err towards being an absolute art goblin/rat girl at times. I also work part time which at the moment works for me great, but at some point I would love to do this full time.
In March 2024 I was diagnosed with endometriosis after 20 years of severe pain and symptoms being dismissed by doctors, and I'm coping with the grief and anger of that by organising a group show to connect with others who have a similar experience.
I love what I do and am excited to keep sharing my process with you <3
