Fish. 🤯🔥 After one of the toughest weeks imaginable battling changeable conditions and relentless cold winds, perseverance finally paid off in spectacular fashion on Clover Lake at the Carp Arena complex… and what a reward it was! 💥🐋 After 5 nights with little to no action, subtle changes were the key. With margin spots untouched and fish activity limited to open water weedbeds, the decision was made to scale things back and fish small, subtle traps. Then came the moment… 🌅 As dusk settled on Thursday evening, a sudden drop-back on the left-hand rod signalled something special. A simple but deadly trap — half a boilie with a pink topper and a scattering of Goodz Nut & Maple boilies — had been picked up. At first, it felt like a tench… until it pulled back 😅🚤 After an intense battle in and out of the weed, taking to the boat and refusing to give up, the truth finally surfaced… THE DINO! 🦖💪 ✨ 65LB OF PURE CLOVER LAKE MAGIC ✨ A fish of a lifetime and proof that persistence pays off — especially when the odds are stacked against you. THEO’S FIRST 30! 🤩🙌 Some of you may remember Theo catching his first 20-pounder, around this time last year when Baston Shallow Pit first opened up. Well, he’s done it again – welcome to the THIRTY club Theo! 👏 Baston’s Fishery Manager, Rich, set Theo the challenge of catching a thirty pounder, dangling the carrot of a return session for FREE if he caught one! Well, 4 PB’s into his session on Shallow Pit and the challenge was complete 🤯 At 30lb 8oz, it will be a carp Theo will never forget and it’s another new 30 for Baston Shallow Pit! Fishing in The Nest with his dad, Theo caught fish of 21, 25, 26 and finally the big one. Meanwhile his dad chipped in with a few others to mid 20s, including a hectic double take between them, making for a cracking brace shot! The icing on the cake was that the carp were all caught on home-made boilies the pair had rolled in the kitchen the night before the trip! NEW THIRTIES IN SERPENTINE TOO! 🐍 🙌 It’s not just Shallow pit that’s throwing up plenty of new 30 pounders – The Serpentine has been at it too! 💪 Tom Millington from Tackle Tart Socials recently held a lake exclusive at Baston Serpentine – and although the fishing was tricky, they all had a great time, with some big fish caught! Tom revealed: “what an amazing venue [Embryo] have created; the water, the social area and the staff are faultless to say the least! Each and every one of the lads had an amazing weekend, regardless of whether they caught or not.” “The fishing was challenging, 20oC swings in temperature between day and night, played havoc with the fish. That said, Simon landed himself a PB – a common of 33lb 9oz” “I also managed 6 fish, including a brace of 30’s (30lb 1oz and 32lb 8oz), followed by a 25lb 8oz common and a couple of stockies. She weighed in at over 42lb - a new top weight! Dean fished an area at long range where he’d seen some fish show and presented a Stench wafter over half a kilo of chopped and whole freebies 🎯 This was enough to tempt that session-making bite! THE ‘ANTI-SOCIAL’ 🙅🏻‍♂️ With a long list of Jobs to complete at North Bank, venue manager @richard.espin took the opportunity to enjoy some solitude and the rare chance of fishing the lake on his own during the Spring! The result was 1 beautiful looking fishery and a session Rich won’t forget in a hurry! Rich revealed: “Northbank is in my opinion, THE best social venue in the UK, but during a recent spring work session we blocked out for maintenance 🔧 I had the opportunity to host my own ‘anti-social’ event!” “2 nights to play with… Just me, the carp and the beautiful venue they reside in. Fishing wise I kept it the same as I always do, simple and safe. And I think the fact I was working during the days with no lines in the swim helped me have what can only be described as a red-letter session catching some of the most sought-after carp swimming in the lake.” “Having my moment with the new lake record, just me, her and the camera clicking away on the tripod in the evening sunshine was a magical moment and one I will never forget!” Alongside catching Gums at a new record weight of 40lb 9oz, Rich also landed the highly sought after Saddleback Lin at 33lb 4oz, plus some other crackers such as a mint 27lb 8oz fully scaled! 1 YEAR LATER… How big are these carp now!? This time last year, @tom_stokes_ had just hosted his Shallow Pit social – the first time customers had got a chance to fish the lake at Baston! The social was a massive success with over 20 carp caught in the first 24hours and everyone getting in on the action… The question is, one year down the line, how big are these carp now!?
