@thatsrickperry and I were laughing on our run this morning when we shared that earlier both of us were hoping that the other one would text to say, “sorry man I actually can’t make it…” 😅 Neither of us did and we got it in. Rick reminded me of the mantra from the book Born To Run of, Easy, light, fast. I was grateful for this reminder and our 5 miles went by faster than I expected. A good mantra we can all remember when training hard and training consistently. Thanks for the great run Rick! 🤙🏼

Patience Is Power In this sped up age of technology, where endless stimulation, quick dopamine hits, instant gratification, and constant entertainment are available at our fingertips, patience is one of the most important virtues we can cultivate. Because regardless of how advanced technology becomes, one thing will always remain true: The things in life that are truly fulfilling take time. Real accomplishment takes time. Real growth takes time. Real cultivation takes time. Mastery takes time. And usually, it takes longer than you want it to take. And it is harder than you thought it would be. Understanding this is immensely important. If you are young, seek mentorship and practices that help you embody patience, resilience, discipline, strong character, and long term commitment. If you are a parent, put your kids into activities that teach patience, discipline, humility, and steady effort. This is one of the reasons I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Jiu jitsu is a long path. You do not become proficient overnight. You dedicate yourself to years of challenge, failure, repetition, humility, perseverance, and steady improvement. And because of that, I see so many young people who dedicate themselves to jiu jitsu becoming grounded, balanced, capable human beings. We should all strive for mastery in something. Not because mastery is an arrival point, but because mastery is a way of living. A way of showing up day after day with patience, humility, discipline, and the willingness to continue improving. You want the remedy to shortened attention spans? You want the remedy to lack of fulfillment, direction, and drive? Dedicate yourself to the path of mastery. It does not matter whether your path is martial arts, business, fatherhood, craftsmanship, music, writing, or any meaningful pursuit. Find something meaningful. Commit to becoming undeniably great at it. Dedicate yourself to the long path. Dedicate yourself for decades. This is what our world needs. More people devoted to the patient path of mastery. Patience is power.

Attention young men! Do not watch porn. The porn industry doesn’t care about you. It’s not interested in your well being. It wants to enslave your mind and suck your sexual essence right out until you’re impotent. And I’m not just talking about sexual impotence. I’m talking about life force impotence. Stuck as a lost, passive boy in a grown man’s body. Shit self esteem. No drive to go after big and badass goals. No capacity for real intimacy. No idea how to actually pleasure a real woman. Do you know what a real mature woman wants? A man fully engaged with life. Real life. Not the kind on the screen in fantasy land. That requires your full energy. Your full integrity. Your full focus. You on the front lines of big decisions. Don’t waste your life on short term pleasures. Any man who has ever done anything fulfilling and worthwhile has been deeply disciplined. Discipline is freedom. Discipline is manly. Break the cycle from porn and anything else that gets you temporarily high, then lower and lower over time. Every day, things will try to pull you down. Every training session has hard moments. Every rep, the weight is trying to break your posture. You fight for your position. You fight for your integrity. You win small battles every day, whether against an opponent, a weight, or yourself. Low testosterone, low libido, low self esteem, poor focus, poor health? Start training jiu jitsu. Pick up some kettlebells. Get a trainer. Hit the trail. Run some miles. Men who train and stay away from toxic habits do not deal with the issues plaguing most young men today. When I was 20 I woke up. Drinking too much, popping pills, eating junk, hating myself. I changed and never looked back. I’ve embodied discipline and drive. Love and grit. Now I help people embody focus, health, wholeness, and self respect. I’ve never watched porn one single time in my adult life. My hardware functions optimally. My wife is fully pleasured and loved every time we’re intimate. As a man, that feels amazing. Get to training. Discover the truth of who you are. It will be a million times better than any busted nut over a woman who doesn’t give two shits about you. 👊🏼

Do you love yourself? That question makes most men cringe. Some hear it and think, “What does that even mean?” Others push it away fast. “Don’t ask me some soft, mushy bullsh*t.” Some feel it land somewhere true and realize, if they’re honest, the answer is no. A few can calmly and genuinely say, “Yeah, I do.” Most men don’t actually know what it means. That used to be me. When I first encountered the idea, I thought it meant a gushy emotional feeling toward myself. Standing at the mirror repeating affirmations. Hand on the heart. Manufacturing warmth internally. For most driven men, that’s not what self love looks like. For me, self love is a steady feeling of self respect. Being able to look in the mirror and honestly say, “Yeah, I like who I am. I respect who I am. I care deeply about my life.” And because I care deeply about my life, I treat it that way. I get up and train. I work toward mastery. I invest in my health, my marriage, my children, my mission. I build toward something I will look back on with a sense of fulfillment, because I believe it is worth the effort. That is what self love looks like. Respect for who you are. Stewardship of the life you have. If your internal dialogue tells you that you’re behind, broken, or not enough, if you numb yourself with alcohol, weed, porn, distractions, or overwork, if you consistently neglect your health, your relationships, and your purpose, then you don’t love yourself. Love is not proven by words. Love is proven by action. How you treat your life reveals how you feel about yourself. So ask yourself honestly: do you love yourself? If the answer is no, or not fully, the real question is: what needs to change for you to become the man you actually respect? Self love is not found only in thinking better thoughts. It is found in becoming someone you are proud to be.
