The hammam is one of the oldest bathing rituals in the world. Originating in the Middle East and North Africa, it has been a place of cleansing, community and ceremony for over a thousand years.
We hold our own interpretation. Ancient in origin. Considered in practice.

Ember is a communal space. Voices remain soft, conversations quiet. Something closer to a library. For those who prefer complete stillness, we host two silent sessions each week.

There’s a particular kind of stillness that comes from being somewhere like this with your favourite people. Treatments and bathhouse, paired together for groups of up to six.

The idea for Ember was born, in part, from experiencing the hammam for the first time.
For centuries, the hammam was the only place most people could access hot water. It was communal. A place the neighbourhood gathered. To cleanse, yes. But also to slow down and talk. Still to this day it’s a gathering place, and reminds us why Ember exists.

Contrast therapy. What feels instinctive has been practiced across Nordic, Japanese and Turkish bathing cultures for centuries. Improved circulation, reduced inflammation, a nervous system that settles. There’s something ancient in the instinct to move between the two.

In Japanese bathing culture, this is called kakeyu. The act of pouring warm water over the body to prepare it for the onsen. It’s the beginning of the ritual itself.
The hinoki bucket, the low seat, the slow pour. Borrowed from a tradition that has understood something about water and the body for over a thousand years.

In conversation — On nature.
“We wanted to make this such a contrast to the urban area we’re in. Despite the industrial warehouse we’re housed in, we do hope that elements of nature is felt through all the textures, the rocks we’ve chosen, the pieces of furniture, the materials we’ve used on all the baths and the saunas.”
Nature was an intentional choice. The dark volcanic stone, the raw timber, the weight of the materials. All chosen because something in us responds to it. Slows down because of it.
