Wrapping up an unforgettable time in Locarno. Switzerland has been the perfect backdrop for days filled with meaningful conversations, inspiring films, and incredible people who care deeply about the future of cinema.
I’m heading home with new ideas, new friends, and a renewed sense of purpose for the stories we tell. Grateful for every moment, and excited for what’s ahead.
Here’s to more opportunities, more festivals, and more platforms to share When Nigeria Happens with the world.

We’re officially heading to Locarno.
When Nigeria Happens will have its World Premiere as the Opening Film for the Open Doors section at the Locarno Film Festival.
It’s a first, the first African film and Nigeria’s first contemporary dance film to open this section. A quiet but meaningful milestone.
We’re bringing a story rooted in resilience, movement, and the creative spirit of Nigerian youth to a global audience. The journey here has been full of challenges, but deeply rewarding.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us this far.
More updates from Switzerland soon.

✨ A Moment to Remember ✨
In 2023, I had the honor of screening my film Otiti at the African Diaspora International Film Festival in New York, hosted at the iconic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. It was a powerful reminder of how storytelling can inspire, connect, and create change, especially in spaces that celebrate Black creativity and culture.
As we head into 2025, to all the filmmakers out there: keep creating, keep pushing, and keep sharing your stories. Your voice and vision matter more than ever.
Let’s make 2025 a year of fearless storytelling. You’ve got this! 🎥💪🏾

Ema Edosio didn’t wait for perfect conditions. She made When Nigeria Happens with what she had, and it opened one of the most respected festival sections in Europe after screening at 2024 S16 film festival.
Her journey from S16 Film Festival to one of Europe’s biggest festivals shows how festivals can shape visibility, partnerships, and long-term opportunities.
In a recent interview, Edosio talks about her festival journey, what it did for her and what they can do for you as a filmmaker.
