Over the years, my relationship with dance has shifted from focusing on technique, to chasing creativity, authenticity and surprise, to exploring strength, authority and power. Lately, I’ve realized that what truly moves me is: meaning. This song touched something deep in me. After my recent time in South Africa, including a visit to the Nelson Mandela Museum, I’ve been reflecting on how I see myself, my roots, my ancestors, my identity, and my sense of purpose. Performing a choreography multiple times is a tricky exercise for us... After living the story once, it can feel like retelling it over and over again (even if you love that story). That’s also why we’re so drawn to improvisation: it’s always written in the moment. So finding the drive to perform choreography hasn’t been easy. What motivates us is knowing that experiencing something live has a completely different dimension than watching it on a screen. We do it so the audience can feel it in real time. And when the crowd is like the one at @koreanopen.wcs , the energy we give on stage comes right back to us.
