Wae Rebo, an isolated, traditional Manggarai village in the mountains of Flores, only reachable by hiking there ⛰️
The view of the seven cone-shaped huts surrounded by the clouds was breathtaking. When we arrived, I thought: This is why I travel! We were the first hikers of the day to arrive, so the village was very quiet, with only a few tourist that had stayed the night. We were welcomed by the village head and invited to the main Mbaru Niang hut. He performed a traditional and sacred ceremony in which we were given blessings and permission to stay. We were travelling with an Indonesian friend who could translate for us, so we were able to speak to some of the villagers and ask questions about life in the village. If you ever visit Flores, I highly recommend visiting this magical place ✨
