I am not one to post about myself often, as I rather like being behind the camera than in front of it, but I thought this would be the occasion.

While I was documenting the Voodoo festival in Benin in January 2020, I ran across a dance festival called "Agogo". The dancers were impressive by their ability to balance on these home made stilts. I caught one of them taking a well deserved break on the roof a van, only thing high enough for him to be able to get back up later on.

Todos Los Santos
The town is most famous for it s annual drunken horse race on the 1st of October. On this date, which is el dia de muertos, men drink quetzalteca all day while going on horses. The last man standing won the race.
Even though I didn’t go for this special day, I got charmed by the friendliness of the locals and amazed how almost everyone still wear their traditional clothing.

Today as every sunday, it is the big market day in Chichicastenango.
The occasion to witness the famous Catholic Mayan rituals throughout the city.
The procession you can see here is starting early on and blessing the streets right before the last stands are set up. If you follow them, you will end up at the Santo Tomás church, where you will see chuchkajaues, indigenous people at prayer, swinging incense-laden censers and reciting incantations.

San Juan La Laguna
The town is rich of associations in favour of women.
Here you can meet Martina, who is the president of the KEMO cooperative. Her association consists in teaching women the traditional Mayan craft of weaving so they can make money and support their families. Everything they create is made of natural products and by hand. At the moment, 22 women are part of the project.
