There is something alive between bodies,
Just as much as within them.
Join us for BETWEEN BODIES, LaGuardia High School’s Senior Art Exhibition, curated by @lagartdepartment students in collaboration with ELM Foundation’s Curation Class.
This show offers a space to explore what exists in the space between us. What separates bodies, in a physical or emotional sense? What dictates said separation or attachment? What causes us to come together, and is there always something between us, no matter how hard we try?
In a variety of media, these artists have explored these questions and themes of disharmony and harmony, limerence and apathy, or chaos and congruency.

A little look at Open Studio! 👀
This is a more flexible practicum class for advanced students, where they work on independent studies in their chosen medium with a mentor’s guidance.
Right now we have a mixture of screen printing and stop motion projects happening with some very talented students. :)
Field Trip to the Whitney Museum of American Art! This week the curation class stepped out of the classroom and headed into the city for some inspiration from the pros.
Walking through the Whitney’s exhibitions, students explored how artists present their work, how themes are developed across a show, and what makes a gallery really click.
Nothing like seeing it in person to spark ideas for their upcoming shows!
Both shows will take place in ELM's gallery space, The Boiler, guided by @hi_its_bobbi ✨

These kids have been dialed in for Spring Session 2 of Kids On Decks! 🎧
Led by DJ Ali Coleman (@djalicoleman ), students have been mixing their favorite songs, exploring Serato’s full range of tools, and working on both independent and collaborative projects.
The track you’re hearing now is an original created in collaboration by Aaron, Milo, and Joe!
Every 5 minutes they rotated stations, building off each other’s ideas to create three fully original tracks together.
We’re loving the energy this session. More magic to come!
Spring Session 2 of Screen Printing here we go! 🎨
Our artist mentor Aleks (@alekskwiecienandra ) kicked things off with a project they’re very excited about…pet and animal portraits! Done in the style of Andy Warhol. We originally presented the project as human portraiture, but they had their own vision, and we loved it.

A little peek at Spring Session 2 Stop Motion! 🎬
Led by our amazing artist mentor Shayna (@woosieparty ), we spent the first class focusing on individual animation experiments using clay and getting comfortable with the Dragonframe software (swipe to see a couple!).
Yesterday we watched everyone's animations on the big screen and recorded live sound to be added. And got started on some new projects.
These students are passionate and we’ve been amazed by the ideas they’ve come up with. Can’t wait to see more work from this group!
Curation Class is in session!
We've partnered with @laguardia.arts and @edwardrmurrowhs High Schools for another year of students from both schools learning together the ins and outs of curating a show. The class will culminate in each school curating professional level senior exhibitions for their fellow students in our exhibition space, The Boiler.
This practicum is led by the amazing @hi_its_bobbi 🤍
