Artist Spotlight 〰 @elliemalin ✨
Ellie creates visceral works built from bold geometry and richly layered colour. Drawing from life, place and memory, her intuitive process reveals and conceals - hues stacked like cellular memory beneath the surface. Soft architectural forms meet patterns found in nature, where light, shadow and shape echo moments in time and space.

I’ve been chasing a very specific feeling.
I keep exploring this sensation that feels so tied to Australian light.
That moment when everything is either over-bright or under-lit, eyes are squinting, overcompensating for what I might miss.

Can't believe it's the first day of summer and we're still rocking our winter woolies! Meanwhile, super excited to announce that a collection of small paintings will be on display with @fenton_and_fenton starting this Saturday! Stay tuned x
The process is full of chance and unknowns.
A few ‘behind the scenes’ of making the work Under Light.
Now showing @castlemaineartmuseum as part of the Experimental Print Prize 2025.
Making space in the studio and letting go of these small studies on board. Lovely one of a kind gifts or to keep! DM for details 🎨

Huge thanks to @castlemaineartmuseum for the incredible honour of being a finalist in the 2025 Castlemaine Experimental Print Prize! I'm thrilled to be alongside such talented artists, including @augustcarpenter and @silvi1766 , who took home the top prizes! My piece, Under Light, combines painting and printmaking, brought to life earlier this year at @baldessinstudio . Exhibition continues throughout summer ☀️
Baldessin Studio artists shine at the 2025 Castlemaine Experimental Print Prize! A huge congratulations to August Carpenter, winner of First Prize for the sensory-activating work “The Pressure Here is Immense” — a striking monotype incorporating beeswax and ballpoint pins — and to Silvi Glattauer, awarded Second Prize for “Dissolving Landmarks”, a dreamlike wall print accompanied by an artist book, both created entirely in the Photogravure technique.
We’re so proud to see Baldessin Studio artists so strongly represented in this prestigious exhibition that continues to push the boundaries of printmaking.
Congratulations to Chelle DeStefano, Diana Wells, Ellie Malin as well as all the wonderful artists on the walls of the Castelmaine Art Museum - Exhibition Dates: 8 November 2025– 1 March 2026.
