Ellen Arkbro
Ellen Arkbroは、精密なチューニングによるハーモニーの探究を軸に活動する作曲家、ミュージシャン、サウンド・アーティストである。アコースティック楽器のための作品、電子音による作品、そして両者を組み合わせた作品を制作している。簡潔な音楽言語と緻密に設計された構成は、歓びと哀しみが同時に立ち上がるような複雑な感情を呼び起こし、どこか距離を感じさせる静謐な美しさを湛えながら、聴き手を多様な感情のスペクトラムへと導く。
その作品は大きなスケールと高い精度を備えているが、単なる手法の実験にとどまることはない。Arkbroの制作は多様な音楽的背景に支えられており、La Monte Young、Marian Zazeela、Chong Huey Choe、Marc Sabatのもとでの学びに加え、ジャズやブルースの音階、ポップにおけるモーダルな感覚、エレクトロアコースティック音楽や音響合成、さらにCatherine Christer HennixのKamagaku Ensembleでの活動など、幅広い経験がその基盤となっている。
Arkbroは自身の制作を通して、ハーモニーが生み出す音の質感や響きそのものに耳を向けている。聴くという行為を受動的なものではなく、創造的な参加を伴う能動的なプロセスとして提示し、聴き手を徐々に音の中へと引き込み、その響きと一体化していくような体験へと導く。近作のソロ作品『Nightclouds』（Blank Forms Editions / La Becque Editions）は、内省性と広がりをあわせ持つ作品として、彼女の現在の創作を象徴する重要な一作となっている。
※ 本プログラムでは、Arkbroによるリードオルガンと篳篥（ひちりき）のための新作を、伶楽舎 @reigakusha の篳篥奏者たちとともに発表します。

灰野敬二は、50年以上にわたりジャンルの枠や音楽の慣習、形式に収まらず、人々の耳をひらき続けてきた。実験音楽における最も重要かつ比類なき存在のひとりとして、今年、ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ音楽部門 において最高栄誉である「生涯功労金獅子賞」を受賞することが決定している。Daniel Blumbergは、映画『The Brutalist』の受賞歴のあるサウンドトラックで広く知られる一方、Muteから発表してきた一連の野心的で境界を押し広げるソロ作品や、多作なヴィジュアルアーティストとしての活動でも注目されている。彼は楽曲、作曲、コラボレーションを横断しながら、開かれた協働的なプロジェクトを通じてジャンルを横断していく。本公演では、灰野とブルンバーグによる世界初演のコラボレーションが実現する。それは繰り返される可能性はあっても、決して同じかたちでは再現されない出会いであり、変化、変容、リスクに根ざした即興である。
また、スウェーデンの作曲家・音楽家Ellen Arkbroは、リードオルガンと篳篥のための新作を発表する。微分音ドローンの現代的な名手であるアークブロは、耳をひらき、その内部を歩き回ることのできるような音楽を立ち上げる。本公演では、千年におよぶ雅楽の伝統を受け継ぐ伶楽舎と共演。両者は結び合わされることで時間を引き伸ばし、現在という瞬間を浮遊させるだろう。

In Vienna this weekend recording a new piece for ten trombones. If you happen to be in town, we’re giving a small concert at Westbahnstudios tomorrow at 19.00. Very grateful to Matthias Muche for the commission and for bringing this to life—and to all the fabulous musicians!

The CC Hennix exhibition opened today at Malmö Konsthall. My heart is overflowing with love and inspiration getting to walk around in her complex, contradictory and divine world of thought and sound. The exhibition is open until May 17th and we will be performing with the Kamigaku ensemble inside the exhibition on March 10th.

Presenting a new work for crumhorns, a renaissance double-reed instrument, and regal on January 24th at Radialsystem in Berlin as part of CTM festival. The music draws on the uniquely shaped texture of the instrument's rich spectrum and resonance, and through precisely tuned intervals and chords, in 7-limit just intonation, the sound of the instruments blend with reed organ and create stable architectural blocks, almost like a synthesizer. The sound brings the listener’s attention to the delicate rawness of the in-tune sound and harmony as texturality. The players are intimately involved with the tuning of each chord, striving for harmonic clarity, sounding and listening as one. Performing with me are players from the London Crumhorn Consort.
There is an interesting tension in the sound of the instrument, suggesting the stability of a synthesizer, while producing a stable tone and pitch on a crumhorn is almost impossible and requires a lot of resistance and finely calibrated air pressure. Somehow it’s in that tension that the soul of the music is found - in the striving for something unreachable.
It's been a dream of mine for a long time to write for crumhorns and so I am deeply grateful to the people involved in turning this dream into a reality. The piece is a commission from CTM festival, Goethe Institute and Somerset House Studios.

The piece was written for Judith Hamann (@judith.hamann ) who last week performed an astonishingly beautiful version of the piece at the second night of 'Nightsongs, daysongs' at Greene Naftali in New York.
