As graduation approaches, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. Over the past four years, I’ve lost four close loved ones. As a first generation college student, it was hard to deal with college demands and grief. There were times when I genuinely didn’t know how I could continue. Moments where all I wanted to do was go home and be with my grieving family. But even in those darkest times, my family from the clouds gave me a strength I didn’t know I had. They carried me through all the late night study sessions, that I did with tears in my eyes. I knew I had to keep going, to make them proud because all they ever wanted was to see me accomplish my goals and walk across that stage.
Well… Auntie Pam, Zay, Tay, and Great Grandma, I did it! Losing each of you truly rocked me to my core, but it also gave me a new sense of purpose. You all lived your lives and served your purpose here, and I knew I had to continue to do the same. I pray every day that I’m making yall proud. And I know that in ONE DAY, you’ll be cheering me on from the pearly gates.
Thank you all for making magic happen for me up there. Auntie, you always knew I wanted to go to radiology school, and you never stopped encouraging me. I just want you to know, I did it!
