It’s my granny Nola’s birthday today. She left us just after the summer solstice. My room is covered in her colourful paintings. She was a brilliant artist and taught me to sew and knit and bake and paint. I feel so lucky to have known her, she showed me how to be creative, streaking different colours of oil pastels across a page until it made sense. I’m thinking of her today; imagining being ten, paint on my fingers, dressing up from her suitcases of vintage clothes, surrounded by the flowers she grew.
