So, here is my piece that I showed at the Nomad show this past weekend. It is titled “Invisible.”
“Invisible is a cast concrete sculpture of a child hiding in a backpack. While it started as a family photograph if my son, I’ve come to think of the child in the backpack as a clear symbol of the anxiety prevalent in contemporary childhood. Although childhood has always been fraught with personal insecurities and the threat of bullying and peer rejection, it has clearly reached a new level with the all too real threats of anything from school shootings to homelessness. Tragically, becoming invisible by hiding in a backpack makes a lot of sense if it is your best option. Sorry to load 90 lbs of scary in you for Halloween. Stay safe everyone.
I decided to join the fun and make a piece for Nomad this year! If you are in LA, come down to Torrance and check out this amazing event Saturday and Sunday 12-6 pm. You can find me at my booth for Winslow Garage on the Third floor with the Tryst fair for artist initiatives.
