Our first Queer Reader Meetup in our new location was a success!! 🌈📚
Northside Marketplace has built an amazing little lounge that we get to have our meetups in. It’s also home to a mini food court of food and drink options and a wide variety of amazing local vendors - including our beloved Elizabeth’s Bookshop!
We’ll be meeting in this new location the first Saturday of every month from 12-2pm! Come join us soon for community and fun!
Join us for an in-person community book club in collaboration with the University of Akron’s EX[L] Center and the Bridges to Understanding event series.
We’ll read Calling In: How to Start Making Change with Those You’d Rather Cancel by Loretta Ross, a powerful guide to accountability, dialogue, and change without disposability.
Our own @rachel.cargle will co-moderate a discussion with educator and advocate Nikki Crawford and readers.
Early registrants receive a free copy of the book.

For the children of St. James. For the land that raised so many of us in spirit before we ever touched its soil. For the country that taught the world how to turn struggle into song.
Jamaica is a place where dreams have always survived against the odds. But today, those dreams need help. Hurricane Melissa damaged the St. James Parish Library in Montego Bay. Classrooms are silent. Shelves are empty. Children are waiting. And we cannot ask them to wait any longer.
Books are more than pages. They are wings. They lift children beyond the limits placed on them. They turn fear into imagination. They turn imagination into action. They turn readers into dreamers, and dreamers into doers.
I am working with @grassrootsfound to restore the library and launch the Dreamers Book Club for the children of Montego Bay. We are trying to raise 5,000 dollars to rebuild a space where young minds can breathe and grow.
For my birthday, all I want is to stand in that library, sit in that circle, and look into the eyes of children who feel seen. I want to read with them. I want to dream with them. I want to help build a future that reaches beyond the storm.
If you can give, please give. Five dollars. Ten dollars. Whatever is possible. If you cannot, share this. Speak it. Carry it forward.
Let us rebuild what was broken. Let us choose care. Let us choose each other.
We’re so thrilled that our friends over at The @nightlightakron are bringing the acclaimed 2025 Sundance Film Festival selection and Festival Favorite Award-winning documentary, “Come See Me in the Good Light,” to Akron with showtimes starting 11/14.
“Come See Me in the Good Light” is a poignant and unexpectedly funny love story about poets Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley facing an incurable cancer diagnosis with joy, wit and an unshakable partnership. Through laughter and unwavering love, they transform pain into purpose, and mortality into a moving celebration of resilience.
Don’t miss this film! Drop a comment with your showtime, and maybe we’ll see you there!
We’re as grateful as we are excited to host a table of attendee, presenter, and keynote speakers’ books again at @lityoungstown for their 2025 Fall Literary Festival.
This year boasts record-breaking attendance plus 100+ titles, dozens of sessions and workshops, and amazing 25 literary vendors onsite, too!

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for an evening with author, Ira Sukrungruang that reminded us why we gather: to listen, to connect, and to carry stories forward. Special thanks to @artsnowoh for inviting us to be part of this celebration of words and community.
Elizabeth's Bookshop & Writing Center was founded in 2020 by Rachel E. Cargle to amplify marginalized voices. Elizabeth's is Akron, Ohio's only Black-owned, woman-owned, and queer-owned bookstore. They offer workshops and learning opportunities for authors and believe in the power of storytelling to foster connection.
